Super Bowl contender or missing the playoffs: which players hit their ceilings

Any team that has a good quarterback has a chance every year, it's a question of health and then how the young players develop and how the old players age. Looking at the cowboys, I'd classify the primary players as follows:

Know what youre gonna get (pro bowl level):

Dez Bryant, Sean Lee

Know what youre gonna get (high end starter):

Romo, Spencer, brandon carr

Could be pro bowler, could decline with age:

Ware, witten, ratliff

Could be high end starter, could decline with age:

Hatcher

Young player with pro bowl upside, average starter downside:

Tyron Smith, morris claiborne, demarco murray, bruce carter

Young player with range from terrible to good starter:

Escobar, terrence williams, james hanna, travis frederick

Could be Passable starters, could be huge weakness:

Safeties, guards, justin durant

Veteran who could be really bad or really good (up and down career):

Scandrick, free


This is a huge range. We could be great if everything pans out, or no one could pan out and players could get injured and we can be terrible. The reason people hype up the cowboys is that we have that potential to be great and theyre optimists. The reason people are down on the cowboys is that we have the potential to be terrible. Fact is we just dont know. Thats why we watch.

I think this season primarily hinges on the development of carter, smith, claiborne, and murray

I'm serious I do too... It's probably not warranted but I just feel this way
