Twitter: Super Bowl Teams Who Continually Draft OL In The 1st Round.

The Cowboys continue to do things differently from the winning franchises in the NFL.

This why fans like myself hate seeing my team draft OL every year in the 1st round.

It means nothing without weapons.
with the same receiving group-- minus B. Cooks

Points For: 509 (29.9/g) 1st of 32

Total Yards: 5th

Points Per Drive: 2.67 -
Points per drive rank: 2nd

AND a 1st round QB.

Broncos won the super bowl with a 5th round runner
An undrafted FB
A seventh round Tight End(anybody know what happened to that dude)
A fourth round wide receiver
An undrafted wide receiver

And why did they finally break through as a team and a conference? Because they(along with the Steelers) were the first AFC team not to get ran over by the NFC team defensive line

Since he wants to evoke the 90s

There is more than one way to skin a cat(a saying)

Let's be honest, Jerry was going to replace Tyron Smith and Zack Martin at some point. That bill came due this year.

And the best D in the NFL.

How can you possibly leave that out of an argument?

All I am saying is think your reading way too much into my joke. I never said my feelings about Dak I was commenting about drafting. I am not a Dak hater. I think a lot of his issues are due to Mccarthy trying to play him like A Rog. He isn't that type of QB who can take over a game. He needs a running game defenses fear to be successful. His best plays have always come from playaction. Why I am hopeful about direction Shotty seems to be taking us which is exactly this. A strong running game. I tell all my non Cowboys fan who tell me all the time that Dak sucks that if regular season Dak came to play in the playoffs that people might think differently of him. My Steelers friend said he would rather have Mason Rudolph then Dak lol. You never have to worry about Dak's work ethic and I am sure that he knows if he wins the big one his mantra will instantly change. I am a Cowboys fan thru and thru so I would never root against our players. I understand why some do not like him but hate I do not understand. You should always hate opposing players never your own. ;) I meant no offense I was just playing around.
Then you and I have been saying exactly the same thing. Dak (or almost any passing QB) can't execute at a high level without an effective run game. Play action is mostly ineffective when the opposing D isn't afraid of the run, and PA is a passing QBs best friend. Lamar is a great example of limiting an opposing team's coverage options. Not only does he have Superman (who should be on our team) toting the rock, but he's an A+ runner himself. What's a defense supposed to do? Play action to Henry sucks LBs up every time, then there's a spy that's out of any coverage duties, so Lamar has receivers flying open everywhere. That'll make any QBs passing stats look good if he has any accuracy at all.

I hate haters. The players on our team are who we have, and that's the team I stand behind. I believe Dak can win a SB. Many QBs with less talent have. I don't think it was you, but someone said that the only way Dak can win a SB is with good coaching and the right players around him. Like, what?? That's true for every QB in the league.

Anyway, it's all good, brother. Go Cowboys!

I think you are looking more at examples of exceptions than anything with QB ages. Yes some of the truly great players can last to 40sih, but very few are doing so. Joe Flacco is technically still playing, but he probably shouldnt be. He had a magical 5 game run with Cleveland, but has been mostly a backup level player at best the last several year. Kirk Cousins is clearly showed signs of regression last year and is unlikely to enter the season as a starter. Russell Wilson is still getting chances with bad teams at 36 years old, but it doesnt mean that he is still a quality QB. Roethlisberger played til nearly 40, but clearly not the same player after that 2018 season. Similar situation with Rivers, Matt Ryan, Eli, etc. who all hung around longer than they should have.

One of the common knocks on Dak even early in his career is that he would be unlikely to age gracefully given his play style and body structure. To his credit I think Dak has improved as a passer more than most thought he would to help prolong that, but hes clearly reached injury prone status at this point with just one full season under his belt since 2020. He seems like a guy that will end up playing into his late 30s, but I think there is a really good chance that is due to a lack of QBs to fill all 32 teams rather than Dak playing at a high level.

The Cowboys need to be careful about his contact structure starting next offseason so they can remain open minded on dumping him and not be forced into a nother extension in order to gain some cap relief in 2027. IMO the Cowboys really should view their time with Dak as a two year window to be seriously competitive, which is why its frustrating to see them not be more aggressive in recent offseasons.
I don't disagree with most of what you've said, though I think 'injury prone' may be a little premature. The ankle break was severe and pretty fluky, played 16 games in '21, thumb injury in '22 is pretty common with QBs, played 17 in '23, but the hamstring injury starts to make me wonder if he's actually injury prone due to body composition, genes, conditioning....whatever. That calf business a few years ago was linked to the nasty ankle break, but I hear ya.

I definitely don't disagree with watching any QB to see if they are continuing to play at a high level, or if their skillset is diminishing. Of course, he could take us to the NFCCG in the last 2 years of his contract, then we'll re-sign him. We have to give the dude at least an opportunity to win with a decent RB and more than one very good wideout.

And the QB stepped up.

Imagine that.
All Hurts did was scramble. It also helps them that they are allowed to do the chicken scratch "tush push". Plus, they always go for it on 4th down because the are not good or men enough to beat you fair and square within the first 3 downs. It's like playing dirty pool. Chicken scratch punk gaming because they can't beat you head to head within the spirit of the game like every other team.

Yeah I don't have a huge issue with that take. I try to look at the injury prone thing a little more black and white, but no doubt their is some fluky stuff Prescott has had....the leg break through an awkward tackle, hitting his thumb on a helmet, etc.

I simply think that the Cowboys need to be prepared for the worst case scenario with Dak as they enter his mid 30s, and to their credit they have been doing a decent job there both going back to a run heavy approach and bringing in a backup that may not be a fully developed QB, but has the plus arm strength, plus athleticism tools to give you a punchers chance in any game.
