Twitter: Super Bowl Teams Who Continually Draft OL In The 1st Round.

I was so proud of our great OL from 2014 when a one-legged Aaron Rodgers torched our defense relying on random journeymen. Or 2016 when they were a #1 seed and relied on guys like Benson Mayowa, Jeff Heath, and David Irving to stop the Packers. Or 2017 when they couldn't score a single TD in a must-win game vs. Seattle and failed to make the playoffs.

The bill always comes due. When they spend premium picks on the OL every year, they can't complain later in the season when they fall short due to other major weaknesses on the roster.
Rico Dowdle had over 1,000 rushing yards last year while being 15th in carries.

All behind this offensive line that blind fans want to pretend was impossible to run behind.

This fanbase is incredibly dumb.

I’m with you. I don’t dislike the pick…I’m always whining about the trenches…but it’s probably the wrong trench in this case.

Most teams have one high pick, another mid rounder and the rest late/UDFA types as starters on the OL.

OL early is a safe bet. Probably the safest, but it’s going to leave them short elsewhere.

I didn’t do my usual research on this draft because Jerry has stolen the joy from me, but I was told around here there was no DT worth taking unless Graham slid….and THREE of them went just after we picked.

Tell me they wouldn’t have been better off with drafting a guy like Harmon, signing Poona to 3/27 and keeping a guy like Golston at 3/19 and probably and extra mid rounder for dealing down for Harmon, and some cap room for another player….as opposed to JUST Osa at 4/80.

They have NO idea what they are doing.
Absolutely no idea. Safe pick.

Desperately need DTs, and Jerry doesn't even know it.

I know I'm in the extreme minority on this, but I still would've taken Manziel over Martin because we had a quarterback who wasn't capable of winning the Super Bowl.

Right now we're in the same position.

So I'm hearing we have all of these holes. What exactly did we do in free agency then? And you're telling me that all the drafts prior to this, these guys are no good now? Surprise surprise. In my opinion, since you drafting is so shotty and bad, why not package your draft picks, move up, and just draft the 3 best players and move on?

Nothing against the kid because his attitude and play are great but we have seen years where we went cheap on WRs and then we traded for Cooper. We've also seen what it looks like with no secondary and then people blame the D. I'll take skill anyday. I think part of the issue is we have hit on O Lineman with a good clip of success so now it's a fall back. Why did we pick up all these cheap hybrid guys in FA? I just hope today is WR/RB

The Cowboys continue to do things differently from the winning franchises in the NFL.

This why fans like myself hate seeing my team draft OL every year in the 1st round.

It means nothing without weapons.
Fair enough. But its not just where they are drafting everyone. It's the lack of development. That's where the other teams are miles ahead. Whether it's linemen or QB's or corners.

Well, it’s about coddling Dak and making that deal look not as bad as it is. Jerry admitted so in a PC type way.

The good news is at least they did it with OL and not a second rate WR not worthy of a first.

But this DT room is arguably worse than it’s been in recent years, which is downright unacceptable. Yeah I know they will probably draft one but what’s a mid round rookie going to change?

Osa isnt going to become something he isn’t because he is making more money…but that’s the Jerry thought process…..”because I pay him to be.”

I knew it, but these two are very predictable….the big contract and first round investment meant the position is fixed. Yeah good luck running the ball behind your big OL when you’re down 2-3 scores with much time peeled off the clock because you can’t stop the run yourself.

Exactly we should have got an impact player. Heck I would of even went to the Dline.

I just don't think Brock Hoffman played bad enough once Martin went down to warrant picking a guard at 12. Unless we plan to move Tyler Smith to LT and start the rookie at LG. I just don't think he makes our offense any better than it was other than guys coming back from injury.

He was fine between the 20's. Then...nothing. It only matters if you can punch it into the endzone instead of trotting out Aubrey.

AND a 1st round QB.

I see your point but I think you're overlooking the specific context of reality of the current Dallas Cowboys.

First you've got to let go of the fantasy that a QB in the first had any chance of happening. No matter how much we would like to see that happen it just wasn't in the cards.

There is no single player in the draft that was going to difference make this team into a contender this season.

Any chance this team does have to become a contender in the next two or three years rests entirely on a top tier running game and a top tier run stopping/pass rushing defense. Both of those things begin in the trenches.

In three years the o-line will (fingers crossed) be a dominant unit making it easier for the next QB to succeed and the skill positions can be filled in FA and the next couple drafts.

I want to see the next guy at QB as much as anyone but drafting one high now and/or drafting skill positions high for the current QB is short term thinking and won't help the team over the long haul.

We absolutely had a QB who was capable in 2014 (The best regular season and playoff QB that year).

This year? ...Eh.

This team building is a multi year operation. we will need at least next year to really become truly competitive.

I have no problem with a young bull like Booker.

1000 yards is pretty common with the 17 game schedule...We averaged 100.3YPG on the ground (27th), 4.0YPC (27th), and dead last in rushing TDs with just 6. They were horrible running the football situationally and when they faced better teams they struggled to run it at all....Against TB they had 20 carries for 31 yards.

If my wife complained about me as much as you do the Cowboys I wouldn’t call her a fan of me.
