I would like to see a change in draft philosophy.

I would like to see an emphasis on adding difference makers even if it means trading up and nailing true elite players instead of "trait" hunting.

You get a Zach Martin, Aaron Donald, Micah Parsons etc. and you are set at that position for a decade. If you have enough of those you have an elite team.

You should also attempt to add these types of players in F.A. and via trade when they come available.

If you look at our past 2nd and 3rd rd picks you can see that they are not much better than later picks. Move up in the 1st and get a true difference maker then fill in role players with later rd picks. free agents and UDFA's.

Then in F.A. and via trade seek out those elite players that are available and add them when possible.

Evan Neal would be my target this year even if it took using my 1st, 2nd and 3rd rd picks.

Sure you might miss out on the Trysten Hills, Nashon Wrights, Kelvin Josephs of the world but that is fine with me.

I wouldn't do this because if you "miss" you have set the team back years. I do understand the thinking though.

With that said, trading 5-7 round picks to move up in the 1-4 rounds sounds like a good draft strategy to me. Be in the upgrade game, and when their aren't any players out there you think would be an upgrade, then trade up to get the few that might.

FA puts a solid team together. Draft is upgrade all the way, IMO.

I believe the likelyhood of missing is greatly diminished when you target elite players. It can happen but what if it does?

Let's say you package your 1st, 2nd and 3rd to move up and grab a top 10 talent like Neal, Gardner, Stingley etc. and you miss.

What are you missing out on? Nashon Wright? Trysten Hill? Osa? Gholston?

If anything it would force them to be involved in free agency to fill some roles.

Another thing that bothers me is this infatuation with comp picks. They rarely amount to anything. They should be packaged and used to move up in particular rounds and get the players they want.

Instead of focusing on getting 9 players, focus on getting 4 that you really believe are going to make a difference.

To me a successful draft this year would be nailing 3 starters. Instead they will draft 9 players and end up with 1 starter. These developmental types rarely end up making a difference in the long run.

Neal would cost that and your 2023 1st rounder

it looks like 1st 2nd and 3rd could get us to pick 11. Neal, Cross, Gardner, Stingley etc. one of them should be there.
Neal will be gone. He is probably a top 5 pick. As much as I like Sauce, I dont think Im giving that up for him. Cross I would definitely consider. By 2023, I would move Tyron back to the right side, and Id have a 10 year starter at LT again

I think Jerry summed it up pretty well and I found it encouraging.

If I take my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to move up in 1........then I am missing out on Larry Allen, and Jason Witten.......not Wright and Hill.
