Anyoje following the supplemental draft? Any decent prospects? I hear Beal may be a decent prospect with no red flags.

The problem is you don't know what you could have had in place of the guy you draft in the supplemental draft pick. My guess is that teams will draft a guy a full round lower than what they normally would, or more to guard against giving up a substantial player at a preferred position in next year's regular draft.

I’m sure if there were DE, WR, TE to draft they would use high picks on them. You know, positions they already have an abundance of.

They would never consider a S or DT. You know, positions where we need players.

I would think Beal is the only one worth drafting for the Cowboys. Brugler claims he has 3rd round talent but said he could be taken in the 2nd or 3rd. Compared him to Tankersly who was taken with a comp 3rd round pick. But nfl teams tend to be conservative with the supplemental draft so I would think 4th or 5th is more likely.

Alexander is also draft worthy by talent but he does have off the field red flags so I don't think the Cowboys would bother.

They then have a safety, linebacker, and running back who don't seem to have enough talent for a pick. UDFA types.

When and where is this supplemental draft thingy you speak of?
Tomorrow, teams bid by email. We'll only hear about it after the fact. They also lose the equivalent pick in next years draft so teams are usually pretty conservative about it.

Do they have free beer?

Adonis Alexander, CB, Virginia Tech
Tall, lanky cornerback who had seven interceptions and 17 pass breakups in three seasons with the Hokies. He regressed in each of his three years in Blacksburg but has serious length to play on the outside in the NFL. Here's the longer scouting report on him.

Sam Beal, CB, Western Michigan
Well-rounded, versatile cornerback with good athleticism and ball skills. He had two interceptions and 10 pass breakups a season ago. Beal's more in-depth scouting report can be found here.

Brandon Bryant, S, Mississippi State
Known as one of the most physically gifted speedsters on defense in the country during his career with the Bulldogs, Bryant couldn't recreate the magic of his freshman season in 2015 in either of the last two seasons. More on Bryant's skill setcan be found here.

Martayveus Carter, RB, Grand Valley State
In two seasons for the Lakers, Carter accumulated 2,797 yards on 391 carries with 28 total touchdowns. He stands 6-foot and is around 200 pounds. His game is predicated on quickness and a grinding style to pick up extra yards after contact.

Bright Ugwoegbu, LB, Oregon State
In 20 games for the Beavers, the 6-2, 235-pound linebacker made 126 tackles 17.5 tackles for loss, and eight sacks. However, 11 of those tackles for loss and 5.5 of those sacks game in 2016. He's a speed 'backer and has decent coverage ability.

Not enough players involved, some years none. Talent is usually low as well with this years one of the better years.
It is pretty decent comparatively speaking. Two players, maybe three get drafted.

Supplemental draft can be used to obtain a player or to acquire a player to be used as a trade to make your next draft even better. Jimmy took Steve Walsh because of the perception (wrong) that Walsh was a franchise qb. Jimmy then traded Walsh for a #1,2 , and 3 picks.

Yeah, but he missed out on a choice of LB Junior Seau or DT Cortez Kennedy by picking Walsh in the supplemental. They were worth more than those picks.

Surprised the NFL hasn’t found a way to televise and make money from it.
I don't think watching some GM looking at a computer screen with an email composed waiting to hit enter and high fiving his staff after is all that exciting.

Then again, we see something similar on every War Room Cam.

But we already had our franchise guy in aikman. That made walsh very useful and completely expendable. Franchise QBs, perceived or otherwise, are still the most valued commodity in football.
