A bit early, but what the hey. As usual, I'm using CBSSports.com as my reference. I'll not be drafting any players at higher than a +5 differential from where they are on this board. I'm assuming picking in the middle of each round.

Yes, I know, there might be some steals in here. It's early. It's a mock. It's for..ya know...fun..and stuff.

The Cowboys do not have a 6th round pick, and have 3 7ths.

1- Mike Evans - WR - 6'5" 225lbs. | Miles Austin goes, and in comes the big WR that can back up Dez and TWill. With Linehan calling the plays and Jerry always looking to make the big Rd1 splash, this makes all too much sense.

2- Will Sutton - DT - 6'1" 315lbs. | Such an obvious pick at a position of need. Jason and Linehan get their offensive toy, now it's time to work on this defense.

3- Marcus Smith - DE - 6'4" 258lbs. | Productive player that can play any position on the DL as well as some LB. With the constant injuries on this defense, a player with this capability would be incredibly beneficial and would find himself on the field quite a bit as a rookie.

4- Jaylen Watkins - DB - 6'0" 194lbs. | Big CB who moved to FS during his senior season. Has the size and skill set to play either CB or FS. This defense needs versatile players badly. Badly.

5- Josh Mauro - DE - 6'6" 276lbs. | Projects best as a 5-tech but could line up anywhere. Is not going to beat anyone off the edge, but had good initial quickness and is very strong. Key words here are toughness and versatility. Would make an excellent backup along the line and potential starter.

7- Aaron Colvin - CB - 6'0" 186lbs. | Fell due to injury. Super aggressive CB. This is hard to call really because he's got first round talent, but can get too physical and is projected to go in the 7th.

7- Cornelius Lucas - OT - 6'8" 329lbs. | Huge man, project.

7- Trey Millard - FB - 6'2" 253lbs. | Finally going to have a true fullback on the roster. Mean run blocker.

Rip it to shreds.

Rip it to shreds.

This is a risky pick even if WR was the Cowboys top need. Evans lack of speed could be a problem in the NFL. He might be great due to his size, but it's a significant risk, IMO. He's basically a TE that splits out wide.

2- Will Sutton - DT - 6'1" 315lbs. | Such an obvious pick at a position of need. Jason and Linehan get their offensive toy, now it's time to work on this defense.
Again, this pick seems like a risk for failure. He has shown that he can't play at 315. The team would have to assume that he can lose some weight and regain is form. He has super short arms. He seems like a Drake Nevis clone. Nevis had a very quick first step, but couldn't get off blocks if he didn't win initially. It appeared that short arms were a problem for Nevis and Sutton has shorter arms than Nevis.

3- Marcus Smith - DE - 6'4" 258lbs. | Productive player that can play any position on the DL as well as some LB. With the constant injuries on this defense, a player with this capability would be incredibly beneficial and would find himself on the field quite a bit as a rookie.
I'm not sure where you get that he can play any position on the DL. His played 3-4 OLB in college. He is not going to play DT.

I think he is a decent 3rd round pick; although, in the game footage that I've seen, he had most of his success rushing the passer by moving around in the scheme and finding ways not to get blocked. I didn't see him bend the corner and beat the OT straight up very much.

4- Jaylen Watkins - DB - 6'0" 194lbs. | Big CB who moved to FS during his senior season. Has the size and skill set to play either CB or FS. This defense needs versatile players badly. Badly.
I like the idea of a player that played both CB and FS in college. Also, size is important for DBs with all the monster size WRs and pass catching TEs in the NFL these days.

The problem with that Watkins has a thin build for a Safety and has short arms which take away from his decent height.

I'm thinking that Mauro gets drafted earlier.

I don't know what position he would play for the Cowboys. I guess he would be a Strong Side DE, but he is not as quick as most 4-3 DEs in the NFL. He looked good taking some snaps at DT in college, but he is not the super quick twitch type that Marinelli prefers at 3-tech. I think he will be rated higher by a 3-4 team than where the Cowboys will have him rated.

7- Aaron Colvin - CB - 6'0" 186lbs. | Fell due to injury. Super aggressive CB. This is hard to call really because he's got first round talent, but can get too physical and is projected to go in the 7th.
If he were available here, it would be a no-brainer to take him and just stash him on IR for a year; however, the injured player in last years draft didn't fall nearly as much as most people expected.

7- Cornelius Lucas - OT - 6'8" 329lbs. | Huge man, project.
He has great size and a little bit of an aggressive edge to him, but he is probably a RT only in the NFL due to a lack of quickness.

This pick reminds me that you didn't draft a Guard anywhere. The Cowboys have zero depth at Guard and this draft seems to be deep for OL.

7- Trey Millard - FB - 6'2" 253lbs. | Finally going to have a true fullback on the roster. Mean run blocker.
I like this pick. He has the height to also play some H-back and TE in certain situations. He is a very good receiver also. This seems to be the type of FB that the Cowboys would prefer.
