Time to start mocking again. I'm going to use CBSSports prospect rankings and mock the first 5 rounds. This mock assumes the Cowboys manage to keep Dez and DeMarco.

27- Nate Orchard, DE, Utah - 6'3" 252lbs - Cowboys need more pass rush, and Orchard brings it. Has a very good first step. Very good at dropping his inside shoulder and coming off the edge. Does a lot of patty-cake with offensive tackles.

60- Cody Prewitt, FS, Ole Miss - 6'2" 212lbs - True centerfield type safety who has played single high and two-deep. Did not play in the box much. Very good at play recognition. Has the athleticism to cover like a corner. Goes for the INT, showing good timing on his jumps to go after the ball. Adequate in run support. Can take bad angles at times. Secure tackler.

91- Josh Shaw, CB, USC - 6'1" 198lbs - Big corner with heaps of football acumen. Reliable tackler and tries to jar the football loose while tackling. Would do very well in a zone coverage scheme as he might lack top-end speed and could benefit from having a safety over the top.

124- Louis Trinca-Pasat, DT, Iowa - 6'1" 291lbs - Good all-around DT. Had great production at Iowa. Can be overcome by double teams but can split the gap and penetrate into the backfield. Good arm strength to drag opponents to the ground while being blocked. Would benefit greatly from an NFL weight program and being part of a rotation. Workhorse.

155- Jalston Fowler, FB, Alabama - 5'11" 264lbs - Replacement for Tyler Clutts. Don't think for one second that the Cowboys aren't looking for a good FB, with their recent dedication to the running game. Fowler was the best FB in college football. Aggressive and powerful in both run blocking and pass blocking. Has very good hands and can definitely make an impact as an unexpected check-down receiver.

I'd really like to hear from all of you what you think about it. Tell me what you think and how you'd feel if this is how it went down.

I like Shaw....but as a safety. So replace Prewitt with a good CB in the 2nd and move Shaw to FS and I wouldlike this draft a lot.

Same here. Shaw looks more like a safety and since he is a bit of a flake and project, needs to go much lower.

Orchard has probably moved well past choice 27 now. He had a monster week in Mobile and made himself a lot of money.

I like Orchard a lot. He's not big, but at 6'3 I'm sure he can get a little bigger. He has a great burst. I'm surprised that Dupree is rated so much higher than Orchard because I would have them very close in talent.

I'm not sure about Prewitt. Safety is the most difficult position for me to evaluate. He has several INTs which is a big plus, but his game footage is just OK. I don't know if they draft a Safety this early unless he has a really high upside and I'm not certain that Prewitt does; although, I've only watched a couple of his games.

I really like Shaw. I think he can play CB or Safety, but I'm leaning towards Safety. I think his upside might be higher than Prewitt as a Safety. I was hoping to draft him about a round later because of his background issues (didn't play in 2014).

Pasat has some quickness and had a few good reps at the Senior Bowl, but he also got blown up a few times. I just don't see him going this early. He is short with short arms.

I like Fowler. He one of the better FBs running the ball that I've seen in awhile and he's a threat as a receiver. His blocking is just OK. It would be interesting to have a multidimensional type FB, but if they're only going to use him 10 times per game I don't know if it's worth drafting a FB.

Based on the current CBS rankings here are some guys I like:
36 DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa
43 DT Michael Bennett
51 DT Carl Davis
60 DT *Xavier Cooper
75 DT Gabe Wright
90 DE ZaDarius Smith
98 DE Preston Smith
105 DE Lynden Trail
125 DE Anthony Chickillo

Much appreciated xwalker.

Anthony Chickillo is intriguing to me as well. I think he could be a very good rotational player. I just find it hard to argue with the numbers that Pasat put up.

It helped Pasat a lot that he played next to the big monster Carl Davis. Davis looks like a first round talent to me, but they say he failed the interviews and the Senior Bowl which is one of the reasons that he is lower on the rankings.

Cooper is someone that Broaddus keeps talking about.

I like Gabe Wright a good bit, but he keeps catching the "short arms" criticism.

If Broaddus likes Cooper then I might take him off my list. Broaddus and his gang are clueless. He does not even look at the draft until the Cowboys season is over.

Wright reminds me of Ratliff. Ratliff was considered to have short arms also.

Wright's arm length is 32-3/4" which is not terrible but might keep some 3-4 teams from drafting him.

I'm a sucker for a good fullback.

however, I don't see the team using a pick on one. Think we'll go with Clutts on a minimum contract and bring in 1 or 2 UDFA guys to compete with him.

Like the first pick, can't comment on the Safety or corner though.

I do not get overly worked up on Broaddus, so not a big deal that he does not look at prospects or half the time says "sorry, I have not studied yet". There are plenty of other resources to read to get a bead on a prospect.

Brandt suggested that Cooper was making a mistake by coming out. If he were half as good as Broaddus suggests, I wonder why Brandt would be so adamant.

Wright's arm length is 32-3/4" which is not terrible but might keep some 3-4 teams from drafting him.

He is a 3-4 nose only for teams who look at NT like Phillips used to as his game is off the snap quickness versus holding the point. Otherwise, he is a 3-T.

Here's the thing with Shaw, he made one mistake. Yes, it was colossally stupid, but he got into a screaming match with his girlfriend, got scared when the cops showed up, hurt himself trying to avoid the cops, and made up an incredibly stupid lie to try to explain his injury a few days before the season started.. Now, some might think, if he lied about that, what else has he and will he lie about? That's fair. Everything else this kid has done shows he is an outstanding young man and NFL teams either know that, or will find it out during the next few months.

As a high school QB, he led his team to the state semi-finals, earning Parade and Under Armour All-American honors.
He played CB and S for the Florida Gators in 2011 as a freshman.
He transferred back to California to help take care of his sick grandfather.
In 3 years at USC, he started at CB, SS, and FS.
He was a commencement speaker at USC's graduation ceremonies last year.
He was named Team Captain this year (before the incident).

I won't deny that the injury and lie were really stupid, but if you know Josh, it was an unusual lapse in judgement.

Broaddus was all over Zack Martin and Demarcus Lawrence on all of the Draft Shows last year. He even spoke about the Cowboys really liking Lawrence enough to move into the bottom of the 1st round to get him, well before the actual draft.

Love the idea of a draft that nets Shaw, Orchard, but rather the second pick been used on an oline man, cb or dt. An Orchard, Cooper, and Shaw first three rounds would be a home run for me. Like Chris, I'm not worried about Shaw's character all that much.

if the talent is there I would do the DL with the 1st two picks. You need to hedge your bets that will hit on 1 out 2, otherwise you are putting your eggs in one basket on the 1st rounder.

Definitely agree with you there. But production is production. He made the most of his opportunities.

I can't see the Cowboys going DL with 1 and 2. We need help in the secondary bad. Who do we have that is playing well back there? Scandrick and arguably Church/Wilcox. But we can't have 2 strong safeties on the field anymore. We need another corner and a FS in a bad way. I absolutely do not trust Carr or Claiborne.

For me, college stats are a very small part of the eval of prospects because there are so many variables (competition, scheme, surrounding players, etc..).

The main college stats that intrigue me are INTs for DBs or fumbles by offensive players.

I barely look at sack and tackle stats. I've just seen too many guys that had those but couldn't play in the NFL.
