Surface Tablet From Microsoft

They look nice... looks like they have Windows 8 on them. Windows 8 will look exactly like that on PC's here pretty soon.

It shows how the Windows tablets can use it as well.

That's why I got the Ipad originally . I am in airports A LOT and I hated dragging the laptop along. The Ipad was a great change for me for convenience purposes. Plus now I can use the WiFi now on the plane.

Big reason I got an iPad. Its so much easier to use traveling than a laptop, and net books are just weird to me.

I just need a good privacy film for my iPad. Heh, I'm actually posting from it right now. 3G is something I didn't think I would use but I use it a lot.

I do have a question about the keyboard though. It looks like the keyboard needs to be used on a table. If that's the case I see that as a major design flaw.

It looks usable on the lap to me. I can really only see it being used on hard surfaces though.

Interesting, haven't seen that photo yet. Do you know if it's detachable and still functional when detached?

Virtually every time I sit in a board room or meeting room with a group of business people or lawyers, at least a handful have an iPad out. And these are old (i.e., 60+ year old directors/CEOs) and young (22 year old i-bankers). It has shocked me how much Apple has dominated the enterprise market (over 70+% of new enterprise activations, last I saw). And if they don't have an iPad, they at least have an iPhone -- Blackberries are all but officially dead.

I typically leave my iPad at home, but in meetings it's great to keep in front of you for access to e-mail and files.

Yeah, absolutely. Tablets and smartphones are the future, no doubt. But I think that eventually they will be company issued and company configured for big corporations. Right now, employees have a mix of devices, and enterprises have been willing to allow the employees to choose because integration into enterprise IT has been next to nothing (maybe access to an Exchange server, but that's it). As they become more integral to business, I think enterprises will standardize on one technology for their enterprise.

I'm not sure how the detaching works. I haven't really read much about it just seen the pictures and the short video they put out like a commercial. I know the keyboard is detachable, and from the commercial it looks like it is a magnet. My guess would be that it is a wireless keyboard so it does work when detached.

Here's the commercial I'm talking about.

EDIT: LOL, just watched it again. Definitely a magnet.

Ya, def a magnet! lol The design of the actual device is ugly but that keyboard is a game changer if what we've discussed is factual.

There is no question they used the iPad 2 as inspiration for that keyboard though. I really hope Apple will at least offer a product just like this for iPads as an accessory. Something tells me they won't though and will stick by their principle -- which in turn will, I believe, have a negative effect on sales.

I wonder how competitive the price point will be.

They already have some similar product. Wireless keyboards are supported.

They also have cases for bluetooth keyboards.

Not as slim, but I'd imagine it wont take them long.

I've seen those. They aren't even close to what the Microsoft keyboard is.

Actually, if Apple doesn't make it I'm sure someone else will sell an iPad product that is similar to that of the Microsoft one. It would really be a shame if Apple didn't though.

The problem with cases for keyboards is that it becomes too cumbersome. You have an iPad and case, then a keyboard and case.

They are definitely much harder to move around that way. I still think I would prefer an Apple just because their OS seems better. I have yet to try out the Windows one yet though so you never know!

Apple is releasing iOS 6 pretty soon. Here is their preview.

Yeah, I'm addicted to their OS. I've had a Macbook and have an iMac now, not to mention every iPhone and numerous iPods. I have no plans to ever buy anything outside of Apple for quite some time. I grew up on PC's but nothing will ever compare to how smooth and effortless the Mac OS is.

I'm waiting for the Apple TV to come out, that will be interesting.

Looks nice but the new Windows platform doesn't appeal to me at all.

I don't really care about the hardware all that much. I'm more interested in the ease of use and functionality of the product.

If the software isn't on par, this product won't really "compete".

Ya I'm the same way, I switched to Apple and love it.

I do think something will top them eventually, it's only the natural way. If they are going to they need to step AHEAD of Apple. Right now Windows is still chasing one step behind them.
