Does anybody watch these shows? I have to say that I would rather watch Survivorman than Bear. Bear may have what it takes to do certain things but having a full time camera crew nearby placing food and other scenarios isn't as realistic to me.

bear also admitted to staying in hotels from what ive heard.

you have to give props to SURVIVOR man just walking back and forth moving cameras would be a killer.

Bear seemingly knows far more about the surrounding environments than Survivorman does, and is generally more viewable. Man vs. Wild is far more entertaining IMO, but the way it is arranged sucks.

If MVW would change to a less "set up" arrangement, it would be the better program by far IMO. Probably won't happen though.

Survivorman is too damn boring.

Alot of Bears stuff seems to staged and most of those things he shows you the average joe would be crazy to attempt. Yes it's exciting to watch but not very realistic for the average joe stranded in the middle of nowhere. From what I have heard many of the places that Bear is dropped in actually at times aren't far from major roads or in somewhat recognized places.

And some of the things it shows him doing have to be staged.

For instance supposedly Bear came across a herd of wild horses and he was attempting to tame one and ride it. Closer observation clearly shows that the Horses had hooves so they couldn't of been wild.

Then in one instance Bear throws a stick at a Rabbit from several yards away to kill it. However if you watch the stick when it is going towards the rabbit it looks like it's going to miss by about 6 inches to a foot. Conviently the camera pans away just as the stick is "supposedly" about to hit the rabbit.

Or how about swimming underneath a huge dam created by debri in the middle of a canyon to get to the otherside? Explain to me how the first time bear almost makes it but has to to turn back and get air to go a second time yet his camera crew has no problem swimming under the same dam with gear in tow.

Speaking of the Camera crew how is it they seem to manage so well following Bear into many of these same places that Bear himself "struggles" with? Climbing cliffs, crossing streams and what not...

Survivorman is much more believable as he appears to be out on his own and he attempts to show you practical means of survival. I can understand wear Bear is coming from though as he mainly deals with worst case scenarios but even then most of his worst case scenario dealings still seem to be to far fetched.

Pretty sure horses come with hooves. ;)

Bear is more entertaining but survivor is more practical.

I will tell you all one thing, i watched Bear glide over Everest and i couldn't believe my eyes. Not sure there are more than a handful of men in the entire world that could pull that off, or even attempt it.

lmao...I know. Funny though.

I didn't catch that that horse was shod. Figures though, it was awfully convenient.

I'd like to rewatch that particular episode so I can check that out...the rabbit too. Although its more fun to think of him as some "survivor ninja" that can do things like: kill rabbits by throwing sticks at them. :D

If I understand correctly Bear was a British Royal Marine so he's not entirely mortal.

Wow, i didn't notice that. How in the world can the producers be dumb enough to run a shod horse out there and try and pass him off as "wild"? Well, i guess it worked on me and I'm around horses all the time. I definitely have to try and catch that episode again.

You have to look pretty close for it. I first heard about it on the discovery.com message boards. Alot of the "fans" of that show have been complaining about it's supposed realism for a while. When I heard about the horses I watched the episode again and sure enough they appear to have horseshoes. Also include the fact that the horses seemed incredibly tame around him anyway. It's possible that in Bear's dilusional mind that he thought they might be wild when infact Bear was likely running around on some guys property that happened to have horses. I bet if the camera had panned off to a right you'd see a cozy cottage a good 500 yards away with smoke billowing out of the chimney. Everything about his show is fishy and mainly for glamour.

In that episode with the horses, he bites the head off a snake on camera. That ended my interest in that show on every level. There was no need to show that on camera.

My grand dad was a stock contractor for 30 years. You couldn't get within 50 yards of those bucking horses before they took off.

There's no question that as far as thrills and excitement go, Man vs Wild is superior. There's also no question that Survivorman is more realistic. They're both full of good information. Not that you'd attempt a lot of the things that Bear does, but he gives lots of good info.
