Swaim is the blocking TE who can catch a little. Escobar is clearly in for his receiving. Not surprised Swaim is ahead.

Didn't see this posted yet, and haven't seen people discussing. Hope I'm not just super late to finding this out lol

Is it just because of the injury to Escobar or based on, on play?

Swaim was easily the better TE of the two in camp. Whether that's because Escobar is coming off injury or simply because Escobar isn't as good I don't know.

I did think Escobar's blocking showed some improvement, but he just wasn't much of a factor while Swaim bounced back from a couple of drops in the preseason opener.

Broaddus said he was able to create some mismatches further down field. Also he and Dak seemed to have some chemistry in Oxnard. I think the TEs and Beasley will get their share of passes while Dak starts.

Running the ball and blocking for pass protection are going to be at a ptremium with DAK and Elliott.

Escobar is also still recovering from his Achilles injury.

No surprise there.

So Escobar has more problems than just Witten in front of him?

Man when a 6th or 7th rd pick passes a 2nd on the depth chart, it's bad news for the 2nd. Escobar wasn't a good fit here in the Cowboys current scheme, do he prob will move onto green pastures. The Cowboys knew his skill set ( pass catching jimmy graham type) when they drafted him.

Witten wasn't considered a great blocker when Dallas drafted him, either. Parcells used to chide him about his blocking, but Witten worked hard on it and became one of the best.

I'm sure that was the hope on Escobar, and maybe he would be able to be more like Witten as the No. 1 tight end, but at the No. 2 spot, more blocking ability is needed.

It will be interesting to see how they stack up when hanna comes back to filling his role as the primary blocking TE. Do they they flip flop as the 3rd and 4th?

Escobar has nice size and hands. Idk why he doesn't show up more in the passing game, I'd love to have a TE/WR hybrid type player.

No he didn't. They essentially play different positions. Swaim can't do what Escobar does, and vice versa.

They want more protection for the fledgling QB, so a blocking TE moves to 2nd and the receiving TE moves to 3rd, at least until Hannah returns.
