Swapping 5th for 7th chart value

Don’t know if the math checks out but I think the larger point is we didn’t spend much on a young developmental prospect with intriguing skills set.

Folks need to change their perspective and stop think Milton has to be Dak’s heir apparent.
It's a dart throw, like most 6thish rounders.

5th #171 value = 23

7th #217 value = 4.2

23 - 4.2 = 18.8

5th pick in 6th round, value = 18.6

Summary: They traded the equivalent of about the 5th pick of the 6th round for QB Joe Milton.

Contract with Cowboys:
3 years
1.06M average
Zero guaranteed
But what about the exchange rate in China?

What you have to ask yourself is ... would a rookie QB 2025 be available in this draft to offer what Milton comes already in with?

Those that dislike this trade are suffering still from Lance value derangement syndrome.

Just because we gave up a fourth for baby Lance, that should not derail the Cowboys for going right back after another chance on high ceiling prospects at QB.

Rush hit his ceiling and that was a nice job by Coop when Dak was out, but those of us that pay attention knew that would be Coops greatest performance of his career.

QBs are not ever easy to find and why I am in total agreement that they should constantly be churning for potential talent and not waste time with the Cooper Rushes.

And kept same number of picks in this draft.

Smart organizations add QBs with high ceilings on a frequent basis. Green Bay comes to mind. Fans have been complaining for years that we don’t do this. Then in 23 we attained Lance and in 25 we attained Milton. Regardless how anyone feels about Dak he can’t play forever and I like the idea of kicking tires on high ceiling prospects for low risk. I’m having trouble figuring out why any fans would be against this move.

The problem is this really isn’t a high ceiling guy.

I like the trade. I liked the Lance deal too. But with Lance you had a bust. With Milton you have a guy who was even worse. 6th rounder who in college lost his job to two different quarterbacks. It’s just not a real threat to Dak or as a real future QB of this team. I hope I’m wrong and we are lucky to find another guy. But I’m certainly not faulting the Cowboys. Jerry finally got one over on someone.

He is a better, more developed player than we could have drafted in the 5th round at QB. He and Grier will battle for #2 this year. If Milton continues to develop at all, he should be Dak’s backup next year at the latest.

He doesn’t have to be a threat to Dak. He just has to do his best to help us win. Physically speaking he has a lot of potential. The biggest threat to Dak is Father Time and injuries. I like how every other year we are taking a chance on guys like this as opposed to waiting until Dak retires.

Milton has the chance to add value this season as a backup. A rookie late round pick is unlikely to play this season even if they both have similar long term potential.

Worst case, the defensive coaches probably like having a big athletic QB to simulate some of the QBs they'll face...Hurts, etc..

Here's my question;
Who is our back up QB when Dak goes down?
This is a developmental guy, not a solid number 2.

I think we give him every shot to be No. 2, then if we see in the preseason that he doesn't look like he can handle it, we find a veteran.

As rosters shake out, there will be some vet backups available, esp. with teams whose rookies worked out for them.

If we don't make him the No. 2, then we can't give him playing time at the end of games, so he ends up like Lance, not getting enough snaps to show if he can develop.

Good question. Looks like a preseason battle between the 2 likely settle the matter.
I also think/hope that our backup QB will be based on the situation. Meaning if we’re in the middle of a game I’d be more comfortable seeing Grier. If Dak misses multiple games and we’re not in playoff contention then I want Milton to get as many real games reps as possible.

Now if Milton plays lights out in the preseason then obviously I’d want Milton QB2 for any situation. If there’s not a lot of difference in PS between Grier and Milton then I hope they consider the situation.

The problem is with any of you thinking the Cowboys do good at drafting 4-7th round. WTH is wrong with you, how do you keep your blinders on? Why are you so brained?

24- Carson, Flournoy, Thomas, Rogers.
23- Fehoko, Richard’s, Scott, Vaughn, Brooks,
22- Ferguson, Waletzgo, Bland, Clark , Rodgeway, Harper,
21- Ball, Fehoko, Bohanna, Maquamu, Farinok,
20- Robinson, Biadasz,Anai, Dinucci,

Are y’all that blind, or is the football intelligence in here so far beyond elementary that this is pointless to argue.
THE COWBOYS DO NOT DRAFT GOOD PAST THE FIRST COUPLE ROUNDS, and that’s questionable!!!!!
