Switzer

Still excited about the guys potential. Showed some burst when he had some room to run in the return game. Hopefullly next week, Dak will get him involved more in wr sets.

The only way he is getting involved in the offense is if Beasley goes down. Just not enough balls to go around!

He trolled everyone on the no fair catch call.

I'm just concerned that he's gonna do it at the wrong time and get killed while coughing up the ball.

Did they give him the yards on that?

You can't do that. If you simulate the end of a play, you've given yourself up.

They need to outlaw the fake spike play for that reason. If a QB can legally commit grounding to stop the clock, then the defense shouldn't have to defend a fake of that play.

interesting. what was it that he did that simulated it? aside from raise his hands slightly, which i attributed to preparing to catch the ball? I thought a fair catch signal was the over the head hand wave?

I don't think Switzer will do much in the passing game this season...it will be hard for him to get onto the field over the other receivers. All he needs to do is be an upgrade from Lucky on the jet sweeps and the return game.

Don't agree, he will be used quite a bit as the season goes along.

I think we will see him, during camp and early in training camp Cowboys were working on plays with Beasley and Switzer together. I think the biggest thing is Switzer time missed during camp and pre season. Now that he is back they will be able to work him back into practice

I had the same reaction. It seems like it's been a while since we had a kickoff or punt returned for a TD. I would love to see Switzer do that, or at least have a long runback. I kept wanting Dwayne Harris when he was with us to do that, and then Lucky Whitehead, and neither of them (if I remember right) ever did that.

He just froze. So the Giants pulled up. Then he took off. That's like taking a knee.

The player has to go down to the ground to give himself up. That can be a slide, taking a knee, or simply falling down. There is no provision in the rule book that the play would be over simply by standing still (outside of a fair catch). They made the wrong call.

Section 2 Dead Ball
Article 1: Dead Ball Declared. An official shall declare the ball dead and the down ended:
...
(e) when a runner is out of bounds, or declares himself down by falling to the ground, or kneeling, and making no effort to advance

feels like he just tricked them. i liked it. don't buy the gave himself up angle.

although if he got trucked, i'd probably have a completely different view, so.... maybe you're on to something long

Man I loved that trick he did with the fake fair catch. That was bogus that they didn't give him those extra yards. I bet it also fooled the refs too.
Part of that was the Giants player standing behind him waving his hands in the air. It made it appear that Switzer was calling for a fair catch.

I think the Giants player looked at the ref and then motioned to him whether Switzer waved his hands or not. Like the ref is going to nod to him to show that he did. LOL

The last couple of years Harris wore the star was about worthless in the return yards, he's got good hands and I never worried about that fumbling the ball issue with him,,,oddly, he seems to be enjoying his new loserdom home with N.Y.
