Switzer

So Ryan Switzer caught a TD pass........ But he is just a bum and we couldn't have used him. Much rather have a bunch of receivers that can't catch or score a TD.
he has a little better QB throwing him the ball then he would have in Dallas.

He is a player that can obviously make an impact somewhere if you're prepared to use him. We didn't seem to want to. That said, he won't do it often.
Did it in preseason with the raiders and now in the regular season with the Steelers. The boy can play, just needs the chance

Plus his return ability in both kicks and punts is something this team has lacked as well. Field position is very valuable and our offense could really use that boost, especially with how our defense has been able to get stops. Beasley, Austin and Thompson haven't provided anything in the return game so far.

Isn't Tavon Austin fulfilling the Ryan Switzer role? And producing more in that role? People always seem to forget that Switzer was only a rookie last season and most rookie wide receivers rarely have an impact. They also forget that Switzer missed most of training camp and pre-season last season. Bill Belichick probably would have cut a rookie who didn't practice or play in the pre-season.

Austin
5 targets
5 receptions
81 yards
2 TDs
3 rushes
34 yards

Switzer
6 targets
4 receptions
23 yards
1 TD
3 rushes
13 yards

Happy to see Switzer in a place that has found use of his services. Gets him very close to his home and maybe he finds more routes in Pitt than the last two stops afforded him.

Switzer is 4th or 5th WR on their roster?

TWill ( Dallas’s #1 or #2 WR?)
3 targets
2 receptions
18 yards

I like Switzer
but Tavon is actually doing fairly well so far

I like Austin just fine, but also liked Switzer.

To be fair, you are leaving out the stats for the main reason why Pittsburgh got Switzer
And those stats are radically in Switzer's favor--who is top 6 in the league in both categories

Switzer
Kick returns: 7 for 157 yards
Punt returns: 7 for 78 yards

Austin
Kick returns: 0 for 0 yards
Punt returns: 7 for 33 yards

Probably could of kept both Austin and Switzer, but use Switzer in the slot like Bease and for life after Bease(aka 2019).

And then Austin as a niche player/wr.

Both could be a threat. He still was under contract for 3 more years and if anything he brings much more to the table in the return game then anybody we have.

The criticism in the initial post was not about the return game. It was about Switzer as a receiver not being used by Dallas. Dallas used Switzer in the return game when he finally was healthy last season. They would have used him in a similar fashion this season as they are using Austin right now and no different than what the Steelers are doing. The criticism by the op is without merit. It isn't as if Switzer has twice as many receptions or TDs as the guy playing the same role in Dallas. It was just criticizing for the sake of criticizing.

I liked the the Switzer pick just fine, but I didn't expect much last year simply because he was a rookie. They don't tend to do much as wide receivers. Especially the smaller built guys. Very few have come out of the blocks quickly in their careers. Whatever expectations I did have went down quickly when he missed the majority of training camp and preseason, which is okay as I saw him as a more long term investment. The trade didn't bother me as they brought in a guy that can do the same things. The 1-2 record isn't because Switzer isn't on the team.

So? You think Switzer would be doing well as the Cowboys #1 or #2 WR? I don't. He is a 4th or 5th option guy and would be doing about the same as Austin is doing for Dallas. Austin isn't the problem.
