The kid seems to have some potential.

Here's an article...

"Days Is an Ideal Scheme Fit For The Zone Blocking Scheme

After playing primarily at quarterback and B-back in the Georgia Tech offense, Days has seen what it takes to succeed in a zone-based scheme. Despite lining up essentially as a fullback in the Yellow Jackets offense, Days was able to read defenses and follow blocks nearly every time he touched the ball.

He has three things that make him look like a great fit as an NFL running back: vision, balance and burst. Vision is how well a back sees the holes open up, balance is how well he can absorb hits and maintain his pad level while he runs and burst is how well he busts through the hole based on his athleticism.

By having all three of these, Days compares very favorably to Alfred Morris from the Washington NFL team. He's going to be extremely productive if he winds up in the same kind of zone scheme that favors his one-cut-and-go style and minimizes him as a receiver and blocker."

LOVE the Alfred Morris comparison. Not fast, but quick and very powerful one cut runner with NO MILEAGE on him. Should be excellent competition for the bubble RB's.

He doesn't take away the sting of not getting Gurley or Gordon.
But he will be given a golden opportunity to make this team.

I am guessing his parents were fans of James Bond movies.

His name is the same as the alias Roger Moore used to infiltrate Max Zorin's racehorse party in "A View To A Kill."

Georgia Tech Season Ticket Holder here....

Days will be interesting to see in Camp, he really came on at the end of the season for Ga.Tech. He started out at QB for the Yellow Jackets early in his career because he is so versatile.

I like this kid.

As mentioned, he is very versatile and has good size. Watched him play against my Heels. Good ball player that can make the team if he works hard enough.

He played fullback too. He can be a threat to carry the ball from that position.

Can he block and catch? The bleacher article made those out to be his weaknesses.

I would say both of those areas would need work considering he hasn't been a back for that long.

But that being said I don't think there was any rookie back who was going to come in here and not need work in both areas.

The fact is any rookie back that was or is brought in probably isn't going to be a 3 down back– at least for a while.

Strengths:

  • NFL-size+ at 6’0”+, 230-pounds. He is a sturdy-framed runner with core strength (22 reps on the bench at his Pro Day). Is a difficult RB to bring down one-on-one.
  • Elusive runner, displaying nice cuts/jukes in the open field. Days often made college tacklers miss with a subtle east-west dodges out of trouble. Days tested well for agility at his Pro Day--NFL-quality agility times.
  • Great balance for his size. Georgia Tech ran Days up-the-middle often, a straight burst ahead in their wishbone-ish type running game. Days would slam into traffic often and keep his legs about him, and press on down the field. He runs more finesse, but with the body of a short-yardage back.
  • Underrated hands in the passing game. Georgia Tech barely threw forward passes, so it is difficult to truly judge their players in the passing game, but on the catches I watched from Days—he has great hands. He snatches passes like a WR.
  • Football IQ. Sees the game well—was a former QB for two seasons.
  • Medal of Honor Bowl/All-Star game invitee—scored the game’s first TD.

Weaknesses:

  • Questionable NFL-speed as a 4.66 runner at his Pro Day. That is really pushing it for success at the next level. He can get away with it in college, but he may be halted in the backfield often in the pros.
  • Had a successful senior season in his seven starts (119.3 rushing yards per game), but that may not be as impressive because of the Georgia Tech ‘system’ running game/1970s running attack. Days ran for a stellar 5.9 yards per carry last season, but 13 of 14 players who took at least one carry in 2014 for the Yellow Jackets also rushed for 5.0+ yards per carry.
  • Inexperienced in a pro-style offense, and especially lost as a pass blocker. The Georgia Tech offense is not preparing prospects for the pros. Pass blocking and single setback running are foreign concepts. He may have a rough transition to the NFL.
  • Runs upright, and a bit gangly. He’s tall to begin with, so being upright and running with a lot of arms and legs dangling just looks odd on film. He’s too easy to find in congestion, potentially.

Scouring report here compares him to Bernard Pierce, fwiw.

Interesting prospect.

If he dropped a few pounds he would probably pick up a little speed. It's doubtful that Murray is any faster than a 4.6 forty guy at this point (and maybe even slower).

Yeah, Murray use to be fast but not anymore. That guy at least against college competition runs decent enough. Didn't look like a slug.

I'll give him about a 2.5% chance to make the roster....and that might be generous. Seems like a nice kid and it would make a good story after seeing that picture of him as kid, but it's pretty much a huge long shot.

This will be an interesting guy to watch over the next few months, we'll see. Training camp will be eye opening, IF he makes it that far.

These upcoming mini-camps will offer some indication. Generally speaking if a guy has a little something it starts to show there.

I actually believe Bond's cover name was Saint Jean Smythe in A View To A Kill. but he pronounced it "Sinjin" Smythe for some reason.

Basically all UDFAs are long shots. Exceptions are guys like Leary and now Collins.
