T.J. Parker edge

This is the 2nd/3rd thread highlighting the Edge/DE position.....why???? We have drafted Kneeland and EZ in 2nd rounds over the last couple of years. Just my take but as it stands now, Lber would be the top priority, followed by S, RB and WR.

Rarely do you draft LBs in the first anymore.
It's the edge, CB, stud DT over LB in the first for defense IMO.

Depth is important, and so is competition. I like Kneeland, but I have a hunch he turns out to be a very good edge setter but solid pass rusher.
To be determined on EZE.
Fowler and Williams will be UFAs in 2026.

I get that John but it is also rare to draft an edge/pass rusher outside the 10 top who can make an impact as a rookie. IMO DE/Edge carries the most risk of any position as a rookie other than QB. What's crazy is the expectations imposed by fans. Draft an edge or pass rusher in the first; they expect at least 10 sacks as a rookie and history/stats will show they come to those numbers, not as a rookie. Perhaps year 2 or more like year 3.
Mike Green, who led the College Football in sacks in 2024, fell to the Ravens at the bottom of 1st round.

As for Lbers, I agree they are usually not 1st rounders but like any position, there is always 1 or 2. Jihad Campbell was passed over until guess who.....the Eagles. I begged Jerry to trade down a few spots and draft this kid. We were told by several draft gurus that he had no instincts......never mind his tapes/stats showed a stud.

Oh I agree. Just seems like the Edge position-since the blow up in contract pay, has become a premium "overdraft" position due to the potential cost of an ELC vs the 2nd contract.
And yes, the expectations are high, but it's just a general comes with the territory part of the NFL.

Curious to see how the CFB year goes and if there are more LBs worthy to go in the 1st. Going off memory, but don't recall another heavy LB 1st round draft since the 2018 draft.
Roquan, Edmunds, LVE, Evans

Styles, Allen and Downs are three players I'm tracking all season........
BTW.....I think its very possible one our two 1st round picks gets traded.......( another player OR to move up into the top 10 or 5 for a stud )

CJ Allen looks to be a good one. Unfortunately, he was all over the place in last years UGA-GT game.

Out of curiously, was watching Whit Weeks, due to the family "tree" and double checking that was his real name at LSU and curious to see how he plays this year. Liked that in the past he's stepped up vs the top SEC teams.
Vs Alabama 17 Tackles, Vs Oklahoma 17 tackles 1 sack, 18 tackles vs Ole Miss and a sack.
Now of course tackle numbers should be taken with a grain of salt.

could see Dallas moving one of the additional firsts at least. Especially for a trade up/TDL(meh) trade if they feel like it's a missing piece.

Weeks gives me Schwesinger (33rd pick for the Browns ) vibes.......tackling machine

Carson Schwesinger's NFL draft profile

Check out some of the top highlights from UCLA's Carson Schwesinger.

Pre-Draft Analysis

Schwesinger is a former walk-on who had a breakout season in 2024 with the most solo tackles in the country (90). His reaction time, motor and closing burst make him a sideline-to-sideline run defender, but he's an instinctive interior run defender, too. Schwesinger locates the ball quickly and slips blocks to sift through traffic. He matches up well with running backs and tight ends in coverage, and he has the range to get to depth in Tampa 2 looks. With four sacks in 2024, Schwesinger showed some upside as a pass rusher. He is also a reliable and sound wrap-up tackler. -- Steve Muench

It's a good position to draft early on if you hit on a guy. You can get 4 years out of a stud. You want to draft the higher paying positions early so they cost less on their rookie contracts.
