Ashley Fox | T.O. mum, but Birds game is big to him

NASHVILLE - The circus is coming to town. Get ready, because T.O. is.

His game against the Tennessee Titans wasn't even over yesterday - not officially, at least - and T.O. already was talking about the Eagles. He barked at Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, "Let's get ready to go for next week; it's going to be a big one." He was so pumped waving to the legion of Cowboys fans at LP Field that you half expected to see the 32-year-old strip off his jersey and do push-ups, 10 with his left hand, eight with his right.

But a little while later, after the dirt and sweat from Dallas' 45-14 rout had been washed away, Terrell Owens was composed. He was focused. He was even-keeled, simply happy to be alive and happy that the good Lord allowed him to catch five passes for 88 yards, even if he didn't get into the end zone once and Terry Glenn did - twice.

(Don't look now, T.O., but Glenn is the Cowboys' No. 1 receiver. Shh, pass it on.)

Owens has no hate, but boy, will T.O. be ready to bludgeon the Eagles on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field. The Birds might have that little Green Bay housekeeping issue to attend to tonight, but T.O.'s field of vision is clear. The only opponent that matters is the one playing at home tonight.

This is an opportunity of which the man has dreamed. Think it isn't important to him? Before the freak show that occurred in Dallas last week, T.O. rehabilitated the broken bone in his right ring finger so aggressively that he was back playing yesterday more than a week before doctors initially thought he could return.

Miracle healer or man on a mission? The safe bet is the latter. He wanted to play against the Eagles. He wanted to be the center of attention. He wanted to be reviled, because that simply means that people love to hate him, which is just as good as being loved, isn't it?

Asked whether it was important for him to play against the Titans to get ready for the Eagles, Owens said no.

"It doesn't matter," he said. "My main focus was on this game today. We'll talk about Philly next week. Other than that, as a team, as a unit we came in here and we did what we needed to do."

But aren't you looking forward to returning to Philly since, you know, you can sleep in your own bed in Moorestown?

"We'll talk about next week next week," Owens said.

OK, so we'll talk about it when the Cowboys reconvene on Wednesday, but aren't you at least thinking up how to celebrate when you catch a touchdown pass at the Linc?

"We'll talk about next week next week," Owens said. "I don't know how much more simple I can say it."

OK. But you know T.O. was dying to say something. It's just the Cowboys' public relations staff is really good at getting Terrell Owens to speak louder than T.O. We'll give them that.

From a football perspective, Owens certainly looked fine yesterday. About 10:30 a.m., he jogged one lap around the field, then joined Drew Bledsoe near the 50-yard line for a game of catch. Owens told Bledsoe to put some "pepper" on his throws, and not be afraid of injuring Owens' finger, which is held together by a plate and three screws.

Owens dropped two passes and juggled another. But in the game, Owens had eight passes come his way. Five he caught, including one for 46 yards and another for 20. One he bobbled in the end zone. One he dropped, and another bounced on the turf well before it was within his grasp.

Owens played about 50 plays and made it easier for Glenn to catch his five passes and Julius Jones to rush for 122 yards.

"The thing that I had hoped, and I said this before our season started, was that Terrell would add a dimension, a relief valve to Drew Bledsoe's play," Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. "It's a given he adjusts defenses for you. When he's on the field, the defenses adjust, period. When they adjust, they have to give you more opportunities in the overall offense, and he's done that."

T.O. also has added a ton of drama to the Cowboys' daily lives. There was the lingering hamstring issue in August, and his Lance Armstrong impersonation. Last week there was the attempted-suicide-to-accidental-overdose incident. This week is sure to take on a life of its own.

This is T.O. we're talking about.

"I expected when Terrell joined us that we were going to have some interesting times relative to visibility," Jones said. "This coming week's going to be one of them."

After yesterday's game, T.O. gave Pacman Jones, who played against him for much of the day, his shoes, then suggested that the second-year cornerback stuff them with tissue paper.

"They're big shoes to fill," T.O. joked.

He undoubtedly will offer Eagles fans more than shoes. Expect a colorful touchdown celebration. T.O. wouldn't talk about that yesterday either, but Witten did.

"I told him he needed to have something special for me there," Witten said. "He'll think something up. He's got a week to think about it."

A week, and then the T.O. circus rolls into town.

One thing I really started noticing in yesterdays game was that T.O. really gets in there and mixes it up during the plays that are not designed for him. I was somewhat surprised that he blocks as good as he does.

I guess I have not paid that much attention to him other then watching him catch passes, but, he was in there doing a real good job of blocking also...
