T.O.P.
One of the maxims delivered here over the last few years was basic simple football truth. If you want to win, have a better line play than the other guys and keep the ball. One of the big problems for the Dallas Twenty-two was three and out and punt the ball away. This was a result of a pass happy team with mixed results.
We can argue why Dallas has built the offensive line. Collinsworth suggested, and it has been echoed, Jerry an Co, made a concerted effort and focused on this area. Now it is my contention this group of people that come to CZ are rabid fans and know the ins and outs of most of what this team dispenses as information. So we all know they were looking for a big defender this past draft, and after an arm wrestling match to get Jerry into a straight-jacket, they selected Zach Martin. This made the law firm of Smith, Martin, and Beard the anchors of what has become a line to admire.
What this has produced is clock control. Time of Possession is on the side of Dallas now days because they stick with the fierce line and moving the ball on the ground. This is not Rocket science, or even the secret of how to get the jelly inside the donut. It is basic football, and this is a team that thrives on being physical.
Culture Change
Which brings us to part two. The culture change here has been taking place right under our noses. One might suspect it was forced on them by the Martin pick over defenders we hear little about now. But the fact is this team has adopted a mean streak, which is what football is based on. Inflicting my will over your will. I will suggest Garrett has something to do with this. So does serendipity.
But what we see now is a team that gets slapped in the mouth and they double up a fist and punch the drizzling shate out of the other team. This is what Parcels preached. What're you going to do when the other team hits you in the mouth.
Yesterday, it was knock several; teeth out of the Seattles and make them like it.
As Nate Newton said after the Cowboys took a drive and shoved it down the Eagles throats in '92, "Now dat's some football."
Defense
There isn't much to say here other than Wow!. A team who plays together is better than its individual parts.
Now lets see Lawrence come in with a passion and desire to kill the opposing quarterback and Carter get healthy.
I will not mention play-offs yet, but looking at the schedule, if they get this type of effort out of the defense, Dallas could be positioned for a spot before the bye.
None of you believe I get giddy about this team. When they show they can compete, I am like a girl in pigtails playing with a new tea set and dolls on her birthday.
Misc. 1
Free gets injured. Our soon to be heralded throughout the league offensive line just got dinged. In comes Jeremy Parnell. On the next play he stood up his defender, and along with the Zach Attack, shoved a huge hole for The Number 29 Express to rumble, stumble and not fumble through to a TD.
As much as we malign Free, I wonder how many fans here were biting fingernails on that next play before Dallas ran the stake through the Seattles heart's?
Depth, it's like having your beautiful girlfriend dump you and her even more beautiful little sister who is wild as a March hare ask you out.
Misc. 2
Romo took shots for ribs and ankle. There are so many elements of playing quarterback, which requires standing there as large men race at you with ill intent. Maybe one of the least talked about is just how tough this kid is. He has a calming effect on the team, and a skill set that they all appreciate. But you know all those guys, both offense and defense watch as he gets shots at halftime to continue playing.
Leadership comes in many forms. This specific one comes in gritted teeth and a desire to win that others on this team see and attempt to emulate. This is also where culture change comes in.
Misc. 3
Again witness the Victory Hitch at the end of the game. It is such a small thing. Something the press hasn't made a deal about.
But don't ever think this isn't building TEAM in all capitals on that side of the ball.
