So does this rule mean that players can't go down on one knee to say a prayer after scoring? I think the rule is ridiculous and that was a harmless celebration by T.O. (granted he should know better, but still...)

I was thinking the same thing. Technically, a prayer after scoring is still a celebration. Is it the fact that he put both hands on the ground?

As bad as that celebration call was, the offensive pass interference on Owens was even worse. The CB reaches out and makes CONTACT with Owens, and Owens in stride bats his hand away, and gets called for the offensive interference. Owens separation on that play was not due to the smack of the DBs hand, but due to Owens being utterly superior. Luckily, it didn't have any effect on the game.

its just the first week and the refs were a little flag happy on it trying to control it (excessive celebrations) before it gets out of hand...no harm no foul...;)

yeah because they probably won't call that in November. It was still a weak call, though.

You can go to the ground, but you can't celebrate after doing so. If that makes any sense.

Although anyone who gets down on their knees and prays after scoring a TD is a little weird.

The celebration rules in college and the pros have gone too far. IMO/FWIW.

I totally agree with you there. It seems like our top WR may be targeted by the stripes this yr. just my opinion. They are going to take all the excitement out of the game before long.

Definitely one of the chintziest offensive PI calls I've ever seen. Many have gotten away with far more than that. That was basically some incidental hand fighting between the CB and WR that occurs on just about every play.

The refs truly hate T.O. He scored at the goalline when they called him down inside the 1, and of course they don't even do a booth review. And as already mentioned, the 2 other horrendous calls involving him.

One of the commentators of another game I was watching had a good idea. They should give players like 5 seconds to celebrate anyway they want. That wouldnt interfer with the game and I think most fans enjoy the celebrations.

Also the offensive PI on TO was utter crap, no way should that have been called.

It was my understanding that you could celebrate but you couldn't use the ball as a prop. This rule is utterly ridiculous. Throwing the ball at the play clock with the intentions of breaking it (Jacobs) is more of an issue than what Owens did. The rule makers really need to get their ish together.

Uhh...I don't think TO was going to the ground to offer thanks to the man above. It looked like he was getting in the starting blocks for a race in a track meet. But then again, maybe thats how he prays. (and I did think it was a stupid act on his part!)

I am more concerned with the absolute abomination of a PI call that he was flagged for.

Worst interpretation of the rule and crappiest PI call I can remember.

TO was doing his Usain Bolt dance. He said he could beat him with a 20yd head start. Dumb, but funny.

I thought he scored at the goal line too. Fortunately, we still got the TD.
