Has anything been said about him breaking the previous TD mark (unless I missed somebody who had more)?
The receptions mark he won't even come close to. I had to remind myself just how great a year Michael Irvin had in 1995 (along with Emmitt's record season breaking the then single season TD record). An NFL record 11 games with 100 yards receiving (including an NFL record 7 consecutive). Interestingly, that was his only double-digit TD year. If Troy had thrown it more, he would have accomplished it at least a couple more times.
Bob Hayes, on the other hand, had five double-digit TD years in his first six seasons (coming in as an OLYMPIC RUNNER!). Despite retiring in 1975, Bob Hayes still ranks in the top 30 all-time for touchdown receptions with 71. That's impressive.
Edit: Thanks, je, for the clarification. Changes made.
