T. Williams has trouble learning routes? maybe Dez will help!

I read on Williams' draft profile that he never had a complicated route tree and it might take him time to learn an nfl route tree. Said b/c of this he will probably be limited at first to the outside simple routes.

Doesn't this sound like Dez his first 2 seasons? My dream scenario is that Dez is able to help him learn these things things in a manner that other teachers wouldn't be able to. In addition, you learn what you teach, as they say, so teaching a young WR route info would be the fastest way for Dez to master the offense and prove to the remaining (few) doubters that he really has the mental aspect down.

It would be awesome to read during camp about how Dez has taken it upon himself to each Williams' all the things he struggled with.

It doesn't say anything about him having trouble learning routes; we simply don't know that. It merely points out that the amount of routes used in Baylor's offense is fairly limited therefore there weren't too many that he had to learn. For all we know he could actually be great at learning routes. But obviously one would prefer to have a WR that has perfected his craft in as many routes as possible when entering the league. I'm sure he'll be fine though.

I think someone gets paid to do that on the team.... Oh... That's right. It's the coach..

Oh boy! Here we go with this BS again, another dude has trouble reading routes. If it's not that then a QB has trouble reading defenses, this noise gets sooooo old but yet it constantly comes up on a select few of players Smh!!

Geez! Who peed in everyone's corn flakes this morning! I am just as excited as everyone else about our picks and this possibility excited me even more.

Here is a direct quote from the scouting profile on him from the sticked thread above:

" Pure outside receiver. Does not run a variety routes in Baylor’s offense. Routes are not always completed if he is not primary target"

and also: "It might take time for him to learn a full route tree in the NFL, but he’s a big, fast receiver with great body control who is also a willing and able blocker."

So no, it doesn't say he is dumb or can't learn just that it will probably take time and it was implied that he may (or may not) have difficulty.

Sorry for being positive about our WR corps and the possibilities that training camp holds.

If a player is making millions he should be able to learn how to get from point A to B.

Don't sweat it bro'. It's time for all the negativity too start. Our team didn't do this, our coach can't do that, our gm can't etc.. etc.. etc...

I for one am looking forward to a new start with all the fresh blood that 's going to be looking to make the team. I will admit I was furious when they traded down in the first, but after seeing the end results, (for now) I'm excited.... :starspin

I don't see the issue at the moment. He will have all of training camp to get acclimated and hopefully Austin can get at least a quarter of the season done before his hamstrings give out again.

Whatever, we'll simplify the playbook for him, but it won't really matter as his job on this team will probably be to go deep 70% of the time.

His one issue I am concerned about, but think Robinson will help him with is his catching. His draft profile said he wasn't a natural hands catcher, and it showed.

I think for year one he just needs to know the 9 route. Which basically means Go DEEP!. I see this kid as a young/healthy/cheap version of Laurent Robinson for Tony.

I think Williams is going to be surprise player of this cowboys draft. He is not my favorite pick but he will be in good position with Dez on verge of monster break out and having Witten. I think Miles tweeks hammy in TC and Williams takes spot and delivers.

Expectations seem to be Williams opposite Dez with Miles in the slot, so he should be taking Miles' old spot right away.

Basically the point of Williams is to have deep threat that because of his athleticism forces teams to put double coverage from the safety and corner onto him. This leaves single coverage on players who are generally more experienced and established.

This will help Romo go to Austin or Witten in the slot, knowing that they have no over the top contest.

Drafting Williams really helps out Austin and Witten the most.

I loved the Williams pick, but I wouldn't expect him to play a lot right away. He's still a raw player. And we have three good WRs right now anyway.

I expect him to be a little like Miles when he emerged -- not a large number of receptions, but the ones he does get are big plays.

I don't know anything about his ability to learn but he knew enough to lead the Nation in receiving this past season. Minus RG3.

When I watch him though I see a receiver that has all of the ability that you need but his technique is lacking. Thats normal.

IF he gets coached up well he could be a heck of a player.

Alvin Harper never ran more than 4 routes his entire time in Dallas. He was awful at anything involving coming back to the football, to the point where Aikman flat out ignored him on those routes. Just put Williams outside the hashmarks in 3 wide sets and let him run the 5-9 routes. Let Miles, Dez and the TEs and the backs worry about all the underneath and intermediary stuff. We just need Williams to worry about vertically stretching the defense and keeping the safeties honest.

I don't know if he has issues learning routs he ran good routs at Baylor even though it was not complex in terms of the routs they ran. He did what was being asked of him at Baylor and the results were he lead the nation recieving yards

No offense, GB, but it seems like fans have been saying this type of thing for years. Things like "who can stop all these weapons", etc.

Yet it never comes to be, why? Because the QB is scrambling for his life when he has a DL in his face when he gets the snap.

I think we needed two OL and two DL, yet the Cowboys drafted one OL and zero DL. Reason why I think we needed two of each is if they make the team and do well (which is a big IF), but if they do, Cowboys could let progress stoppers go especially if they are asking for too much $$$.

Instead this team continues to draft small school projects and shiny, flashy "skill" position players ignoring the trenches and having to pay big $$$ to sub par players (relative to performance).

Our GM does things backwards.
