The 70s Cowboys hated Washington and Pittsburgh. They still have trouble being in the same room as those guys. Same for the 90s Cowboys and the Eagles, 49ers, Giants, etc. There was genuine animosity.

Today, I'd bet you half the Cowboys couldn't tell you what teams are in what division or conference. It's just a big party.

The exception is the Patriots. Players tend to shape up when they put on that uniform, even guys like Randy Moss, Corey Dillon, Brandon Lloyd, etc.

I'm not really sure what this rebuttal has to do with my point. You went off on a whole other topic. I am not addressing the rivalries or hatred of players/teams in this league. I am addressing the statement that the players took extra pride and care when wearing the star, which is false. The 90s Cowboys did way worse than these current players. There just wasn't social media back then so we didn't hear about it. But it's been well documented since then. They were for real getting in trouble with the law, not trivial stuff like today. Is that taking extra care of wearing the star? Doesn't seem like it.

People also need to realize the Dallas Cowboys is just another team and uniform to these players. The star may symbolize something to people who grew up with them it is not magical or hold any mystique like some want to believe.

Every team deals with issues. Ours are just more documented because Dallas Cowboys sells ratings and clicks.

Sigh.

It used to mean something to wear the star. There was additional care and pride that came with it.

A barefoot race in a parking lot at 5 am at a strip club?

Well, he is a Baylor Bear, so.......
Erod, I have to say I'm a bit surprised by this from you. Among Cowboys faithful, you seem to have a good handle on Cowboys history. While from the 70's to the 90's, much less actually got out to the media (thanks internet), much worse was absolutely going on...on a regular and consistent basis. Irvin in a hotel with hookers and blow comes to mind...if I had to choose between that and a barefoot race in a strip club parking lot, I'd choose the latter every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Absolutely. I couldn't care less what players do in their private lives. Boys will be boys. Its all the knee trembling moralists that make me want to puke. Just win on Sunday boy!! Thats truly, the way it used to be AND should be today.

I am not talking about the Super Stars...they need to be much smarter in the modern world...but, they are also being paid for that too.

I'm with you. I get that these guys are role models and should make better decisions, but I suspect half the people (if not more) wielding pitch forks right now have done so much worse in their life. He who has never done anything stupid before by all means feel free to throw stones.

Aside from risking a blown hamstring I have ZERO problem w/this. And if he was a bit liquored up he's probably not going to hurt his hamstring.

If he got hurt would that void his contract? I guess in Dallas this qualifies as an organized team activity.

At least he didn't lose. Did he run out of bounds?

Terrance has said that the guy he's racing is one of his better friends, and that there was no "altercation".

Then again, considering the source of the original story, I'm not surprised by its click-bait nature.
What was click bait about it? Like literally the title is what happened.

TMZ changed the content of the article as well as the title before you went to watch it.

Original story tried to play it like Williams and the guy he was racing had gotten into a heated argument, and they were settling the dispute by racing.

This "additional care and pride" exists only in romantic notions of what the Cowboys are.

The Landry Cowboys were a real life version of North Dallas Forty and the 1990s Cowboys were notorious for their activities.

I guess it is nice and comfy to pretend that the players have some sort of detached pride for "The Star" but that is, quite simply, a fan mind fantasy.

All I know is after being down in Dallas last Sept for a Bach party (Went to week 1 Giants game), those strippers let you do things that you can't do in other cities lol.
