Taco vs Crawford

There are a few things here.

1. I think Lawrence and Hyder have the left side locked up and are a really dangerous combination. We don't need to be doing anything creative on that side of the field.

2. RDE on passing downs should be Robert Quinn, He's getting 7m this season to be our pass rusher so we are looking for someone to play the run downs and back him up. That's even more so the case if Gregory is re-instated.

Do we then need to pay Crawford? We can get 7m back by cutting or trading him and I'm not sure that having Taco play his reps at RDE is a drop-off. Taco has been really good this pre-season and if we're not going to give a former 1st round pick opportunity when they step up then why draft him?

Crawford offers a bit more kicking inside as a DT but I'm happy enough for Hyder to play that role if it saves us 7m. I think Taco has improved massively, maybe even to the point where him playing RDE instead of Crawford is an improvement.

Honestly I think if Charlton's play carries over, Quinn may not get his job back

If Crawford is cut or traded, who moves to the LDE position to back up D-Law? Would it be Taco?

Paying Robert Quinn $7 mil to come to Dallas secures his spot as the starting RDE. Does Taco back him up until Gregory gets reinstated? If so, does Hyder stay at LDE to back up D-Law until Gregory comes back?

There are 4 DEs the team will most likely keep on their 53 man roster to start the season: D-Law, Quinn, Hyder and Taco. Gregory will be on the Reserve/Suspended by the Commissioner list until hopefully reinstatement later in the season. When Gregory comes back, Hyder will likely move inside while Taco moves to backup LDE. How will this affect which DTs make the team?

What about Rookie DEs Joe Jackson & Jason Jelks? They both show lots of talent and potential. There is no way either of them will make it to the Practice Squad without being picked up by another team through waivers. Are we willing to lose 1 or both of them to another team simply to favor a more veteran DE currently on the team? What should the Cowboys do with this situation?

How about we keep all of them, and have the best pass rush rotation in the league. That way no one is worn out by the end of games. And when the opposing teams offense has been beat down in the 4th quarter you destroy them.

It is rare to have this many guys with the way contracts go, and I think Quinn is a one year deal. And we won't have to force injured players to play.

Keep them all, and let's see what rods rotation and rushmen are all about

This team is stacked. Enjoy the show

I agree this band aid will hurt when it gets pulled off. I am leaning making room for the young ones.

Well, bottom line and anyone can see it, Texan's O-line from top to bottom was pretty much trash. Almost all of our D-line looked like they were being handed Popeye's new chicken sandwich to munch on.

If Crawford is cut or traded, who moves to the LDE position to back up D-Law? IMO Hyder

Would it be Taco? I think Taco replaces Crawford at RDE with Quinn replacing Gregory

I have an estimated snap count as follows (general rough idea)
LDE: Lawrence - 70% (800),
Hyder - 20% (230), Armstrong - 10% (115)
RDE: Quinn - 55% (630) Taco - 40% (460), Jackson - 10% (115)

3T: Collins - 60% (690), Hill - 20% (230), Hyder - 15% (170), Jackson - 5% (55)
1T: Woods - 55% (620), Covington - 30% (345), Hill - 15% (170)

That's a very rough estimate but I think gives everyone the amount of game time their talent at present has shown.

If Gregory returns IMO Jackson is cut with Gregory sharing time with Quinn. Gregory will be eased in

Cutting Crawford has the added bonus of making room for a rookie. I'd be willing to chance one of them (Jelks) but IMO the bottom of the roster doesn't dictate decisions made at the top (Crawford)

They are the worst O-line in the NFL so it's a projection, I feel like it's time to give Taco his chance though, he's a first-round pick that has balled in pre-season. We have cover if he flops (Quinn) and I'm pretty high on some of our other depth so I'm not too worried if Taco can't make the jump.

I'm wondering what we will do with Armstrong. But at least our DT's are set with Woods, Collins, Covington and Hill.

Cut Crawford. Hyder can play inside and out and registered sacks from both positions Saturday night. I think we're deep enough that we can finally say goodbye to the Coyote Ugly Brawler:)

Been saying this for years. Crawford is a try hard guy that just isn’t good. He is ok as a straight line, 3 tech but awful at DE. He doesn’t have the speed or flexibility for the position. Zero pass rushing technique from the outside. Taco has potential. He also flashes game breaking ability. Last night he was a stud. Hyder is also capable of playing inside and out. In my eyes he is a better player than Crawford. There is no decision here. It is easy.

One preseason game and Taco is now better than Crawford?
When will it end?

Ok, so who's gonna tell Rod n Tank that TyCraw is gone?

Charlton has more range, thus the ability to make more plays. Hyder n Jackson can back him up. Everything is in place for a move to make sense.

My question is would the DT position be ok without #98 if an injury occurred?

Taco > Crawford at DE.

DE = DLaw, Quinn, Hyder, Armstrong, Taco, Jackson and want to keep Jelks also.

If there isn't room for Crawford at DT, he needs cut or traded. Don't overthink this.

Crawford is the ONLY other DE currently available that can play well against first string talent. And he can come inside and rush the passer on 3rd down. He is invaluable in that way.

Despite the nice showing from some of our younger guys last night, including a busy night from Taco......................its no coincidence why it was a complete jail break all night long.

We have the most emotionally unstable fanbase in sports. One week we have a thread calling Taco a bust and the next week we’re finding creative ways to secure his spot on the roster.
