The only reasonable explanation is that the Cowboys are already in serious trade talks with another team. Charlton played well enough during preseason that he would be playing unless another team requested he be held out to protect him from injury.

I'm just guessing, but the Cowboys may already have a deal in principle that has been worked out, and they are just working through the details.

The REASONABLE explanation is that he sucks and simply isn't active because of that.

Yes, he practiced, but why make a player active if he is not 100% when there are similar options available.

FWIW, Broaddus said on Twitter he is healthy enough to play. So its likely they just looked at all four DE's for that spot and felt Crawford, Hyder and Armstrong were better matchups against Nate Solder. Plus Taco has less position flex than Crawford and Hyder.

Plus there's the rumor that he may be traded of course we always hear them

IMO they would have already made the move if they were going to trade him. Most trades happen either before training camp so the player has time to learn the system or in the last week of preseason when the player has been beaten out for a roster spot. Neither of those things have happened.

Well that's why I included the keyword rumors

The injury made it an easy decision.

Garrett is ultra conservative with injury issues.

They probably told Taco that the injury was the reason.

Taco should be traded if they're going to make him inactive indefinitely because he does not have the mental make-up to handle it.

Like Crawford offers anything...these guys have gotten no pressure. Taco can't be any worse
