Take an OT in the first

There are many very good wide receivers in this year's draft, & only a handful of offensive tackles. The Boys need a tackle in the worst way. Drafting a very good one would solve two positions. It would allow La'el Collins to move to his more natural LG position. It also would give us our LT of the future. I love Tron as much as the next guy, but he's been hurt & missed way too many games. The team has to be thinking of the day he calls it quits. At the 19 pick, Kolton Miller & Brian O'Neil should still be available. Both showed great feet & athleticism at the Combine. If Smith misses any games this season, at least we will have a top notch talent to fill in. They still would be looking at several wide outs in the 2nd round worthy of starting by year two.

I think Kolton Miller will be someone we are seriously looking at 19 whether we like it or not. That is of course if he is still on the board.

Yeah Brian O’Neil looked good in shorts at the combine...too bad he looked like crap at the senior bowl. No way in hell hes a top 20 pick. I’d hesitate to even take him at 50. And Miller is a project, big and athletic but the skill set isn’t there to be a reliable day 1 starter.
This is 1 of the worst classes for OT in a while. Would be a flat out forced bad pick

Sounds like Dallas......take a player in the first round that if Smith and Collins stay healthy won't see the field till they are off their rookie contracts. And we wonder why Dallas has no FA money.....

If there's one they think is worth pick 19, I'm all for it.

Either the draft pick or Collins would move to LG.

If Tyron gets injured then that player moves back to OT.

A later round OT will be less talented.

In free agency, good OTs will go where they have a chance to start. OTs that take a backup only job will be limited to players like Bell from last season.

I agree. But what we take an OT at 19 and they see him as a starter at RT who can step in at LT if Smith retires? Its very possible. they are looking at OTs

Maybe. It makes more sense to trade back and just take the OG based on what they seem to be looking at in FA though. Better players at that spot, too.

McGlinchey and move Collins to OG, I could live with that, although, I'd be happier with Smith @ LB if there and used rd 2 on OG or WR, then figure something out with the OL if you end up with Smith in rd 1 and Moore in Rd 2 (for example)

Sure it does. I would rather go defense or trade back but just like WR, i think OT is more likely then we think. Especially if don't get Flemming or Waddle in FA.

Either McGlinchey at RT and move Collins OR OR OR keep Collins and get Wynn or my favorite pick at 19 Hernandez. We need a mauler inside...whether its Collins again or someone like Hernandez I am all for OL in first round. I think it's the biggest problem with our offense and our team ATM.

Amen. Few show some potential but none that gives you great confidence they can be a starter, especially at LT. Honestly that is Wynn's biggest appeal. Plug him in at LG & if he needs to play T, I have as much or more confidence in him than these other guys. 1 pick, help at two positions. *** Note: I assume McGlinchey goes before our pick ***

Not a fan unless the Docs think Smith back is close to being shot.

I'll gamble and say no way in the world we are drafting any OL in round 1 unless it's after a trade way way down to the bottom.
We have to sign Martin to a long term contract, and then we'll be looking to sign Collins. We desperately need either a starting LG or RT with Collins moving back to guard, but your fifth lineman doesn't have to be a first round selection or one of the best guys in the draft. Whether we land a free agent RT or draft a G/T, that guy doesn't have to be great or one of the best to be a significant upgrade for us.

We are desperate for an inside LB and WR more than any other position. We have enough money tied up in the OL and DL with more to come. It's time to find some impact players at other positions, I think.

I mean we could, but this LOT of the future would have to be the starting ROT now with Collins moving to guard or with them playing LG themselves.

I can understand the sentiment. I just think that you are defeating your team build to do this.
IMO, A first round player should be the one that gives you the biggest growth to your team. It is a team sport and all positions are important, but some easier to work with lesser talent than others......ie QB is extremely important.

A 95 QB with 55 WR's is not as good as a 90 QB with 90 WR's.

The weakest position on Dallas team is not the OL, IMO. It is on the defensive side of the ball. The biggest gain for the team is when you can take a weakness and make it a strength. Get a starter at the weakest position with your first round pick.

Evaluate the team position by position. Tell me the current weakest position. Get the player that will upgrade this position to a position of strength instead of a position of weakness. Make other coordinators find your weakness again, instead of just allowing them to keep doing what they have been doing for YEARS.

OT in third or 4th round should be able to develop fine behind the two you have, and still be able to work in a pinch..Just my opinion.
A FA OT should be fine, as long as it isn't long term. So FA and 3-4 round developmental guy should be able to be a backup.

1st round -- a guy who will start at the weakest position, or at least gives greatest increase. Lets say you can draft a 95 Lb and you have a 80 Lb for him to replace, but you can draft a 90 S but he will replace a 60 S. You get more bang for your buck by drafting the 90 S, even if the LB is actually rated higher. Get the starter who raises the average the most.
2nd round -- Draft guy who you think will be better and starting by the end of the 1st year. Increase the overall number.
3rd and 4th rounds -- draft guys who have potential to be starters in a year or two, and can take over for current good players who are on the downswing of their careers. IE this is where I would think about TE, OT, Lee's backup, etc.
5th round is my flyer round. Choose a guy with huge upside and huge bust -- Some who can do one thing extremely well, but isn't that good overall.... IE a pass rush only DE, a tweener, a massive speed without hands WR.
6th and 7th round.... guys you think might develop within 3 years.

1st round possibilities

Orlando Brown OK (cant teach his size and skill will only get better with weights and nutrition)
Conner Williams TX
Mike Mcglinchey ND
Will Hernandez UTEP
Isaiha Wynn GA

If going tackle I like Brown
If going guard I like both Wynn and Hernandez
