Better point... You are not in position to move up to the top next year because of an extra 1st rounder.

However, who knows what you could have got for Quinn if drafted.

The "shoulda taken Quinn" people are assuming Romo, if he does well in the upcoming season, would accept whatever the Cowboys would give him.

If Dallas had drafted Quinn, Romo might well decide not to sign again with Dallas at all, leaving for free agency next offseason. If he did that after doing well this next season he would be snapped up by a team that needed (and would get) a franchise quarterback, and Dallas would be left with an untried rookie (but a great victory for draft snobs).

:)

I'm glad we didn't end up with Quinn, but all of the talk about having BPA draft was complete BS. The proof is reading MMQB and Quinn was the 8th ranked player on our board, but Spencer was going to be the pick if Cleveland didn't call back. All of the talk about filling all of our holes and taking the BPA regardless of position was entirely hogwash. If he's the 8th ranked player on your board at the game's most important position at pick 22, that's your pick.

it stands a good chance that we won't be very far from that top spot

I think Quinn's going to be a terrific NFL QB, that said, even if Quinn turns out to be a good as Tom Brady, he was the wrong choice for Dallas.

IF Dallas would have taken him, how would he have helped Dallas win a Super Bowl in the near term? Roethlisburger being the exception, young QBs don't win it all and Dallas has a relatively short window open. Owens and Glenn aren't getting any younger, by the time Quinn's ready, new WRs are needed.

You also have to factor in the talent of the team as a whole. This team is competing for a playoff spot for the next few years even with Brad Johnson or some other journeyman QBing (they were competing for one with Bledsoe at QB for chrissake). That leaves them in the grey area of pretty good, hence a mediocre draft pick in the high teens low twenties, but not so good that that mediocre draft pick can put them over the top.

If Romo implodes, Dallas now has the first round ammunition to address the QB spot and they're not much further behind. He doesn't and Dallas has the ammunition to address a replacement WR or possibly even a stud RB or CB. They don't have that ability picking in the 20's again (lack of a sustainable pass rush keeps them out of the Super Bowl) while Quinn is picking splinters out of his backside.

And the difference really ?

Romo deserves a huge contract based on what ?

Both are young QBs trying to get that top spot. Not to mention Quinn might get better trade value even unproven.

Hell, Matt Schaub earned great money, although never being a great player.

Um...ok.

Romo may or may not deserve a huge contract, but as far as I'm concerned, he's earned it more than Quinn, or Matt Schaub.

1) Romo has made the pro-bowl.
2) Romo had an excellent QB rating for a first time starter.
3) Romo has three years of NFL learning experience under his belt.
4) Romo has competed against multiple QBs on the same team, including what was supposedly a promising player of his own age, and beat all of them out.

Quinn would never get better trade value even unproven, except if it came down to trading Romo or him to Cleveland.

Frankly, I'm not sold on Quinn or Romo.

Neither am I. Most importantly neither are the Cowboys. O/W they would have him tied up for as many years as possible. I don't see you thinking o/w but Romo is three years ahead of Quinn. I'm as happy as the Boys are with their decision.

I disagree, I think Quinn would have been a great pick. I do not have much confidense in Romo for a few reasons and I think Quinn will be a franchise QB for a long time - Romo IMO is not even close to a franchise QB. I do think the deal we got from the Browns is great though, 2 first round picks next year will let us address the Romo problem next year if things go wrong.

You have no confidence in Romo, who's actually played well in the NFL, and you think Quinn will be a franchise QB, even though he's never played in the NFL and never played well in his biggest games in college?

All you that think we should have just taken Quinn need to step back and think about the situation. If we take Quinn then theres no way we will pay Romo so he will be gone after this year and most certainly before you find out about Quinn. Theres no way to know if Quinn will even be better than Romo, so if Quinn is a bust then we have nothing at Qb and must start totally over from scratch after having wasted another 3-4 years. By making the move we did, we get to see if Romo is truely the future at QB and if not we have 2 firsts next year to get another QB, whether its a rookie or we trade for one. QBs like Quinn come along almost every year, he is not a once every 10 years kind of player. By taking Quinn you put all your eggs in his basket but by making the deal we have options. Its that simple, no way were they prepared to live or die with a rookie at this time so they had to make the deal. IMO, taking Quinn was not even an option or at least not a smart one. Good job Jerry!!!!!

That, and I can't wait to hear all the hype when the Browns are 4-12, and we have the opportunity to truly help our team for years to come with McFadden. Isn't it a great place to be where you can look to the future instead of trying one last stand by reaching or trading for a player. These are the kind of deals that quality franchises make, and I for one, am thrilled. Of course, the immediate gratification world we live in now would disagree with this strategy until next years draft when we are picking in the top 5.

They're both rookies IMO. Last year was a few catch up games Romo played, what he missed in college by going to a smaller school if you will. Aight, so now they're both up to the same speed, let's see what they can do. 2007.

My bet is it doesn't matter if Quinn is better, Romo will get a Ring on his finger long before! A precious ring, people, vs the cute boyfriend many of you seem to have wanted instead. Now bring Quinn to dallas, and yea, that does all change. No question who the better QB is at this point and who has more potential. Afterall, Romo is still what he is, a small school, undrafted guy that got lucky to land where he is and gain the opportunity he did. Quinn earned his and is now pissed off that he slipped so far. That last part, the "chip on the shoulder" part, may really be the big difference between the two when it's all said 'n done. Quinn's gonna go lights out till he gets what he feels he deserves- and that's showing the whole world he WAS the best QB in this draft. LMAO@Russell, playing for the Raiders and trying to justify his #1 overall status is going to break him like a twig being run over by a semi truck. Now ya wanna argue someone who should have taken Quinn, the Raiders are sitting right there. A "smart" choice I will definately need a few years to see transpire right before my eyes before I agree with their pick. The stupid Raiders, getting rid of Moss, they could've grabbed CJ and pulled a Cleveland by slipping back up into the first to get Quinn- instead now they have a highly questionable qb with noone to throw the ball too.

Also, we won't be seeing Quinn's hard-looking girlfriend in Dallas. Can you imagine the razzing we'd take if she were to become a Dallassite? she'd have the biggest hair in Texas in her middle age. Brady looks low-rent enough as it is with that suit he borrowed from Michael Irvin. I predict she will be a Mrs. Kurt Warner clone.
