Granted you need talent at QB and a couple skill positions. For the most part the game of football is all about the scheme.Last year the Steelers would have won with anyone because they have a great coach on the defending side. When u have 11 players its all about where and what they are going to do.In the NBA its all about talent, hence why the Mavs are not gonna do much in the playoffs. They have Dirk and Jet and thats about it and Jet is the 6th man.I see our defense being pretty darn good this year, but I see our offense stiffened solely because of Garrett.Defense wins championships though,so lets bring it.just my opinion.

So I guess a really good high school OL, with a great scheme, could do well in the NFL????

Doubtful.

just because our talent has been overated is no reason to give a blanket statement about the whole league. you must be thrilled that we have no first round pick.

You have to have talent, thers no doubt about that. But a successful team is a team that plays with heart, and who also plays as a team. We have players that play with heart, but last year we did not play as a team. Thats gonna change.

Discipline, not making mistakes is crucial to success. (limiting mistakes)

Talent alone is overrated, whether in the NFL or any other aspect of life. You can have the natural ability in the world, but if you lack the motivation to use those talents then they will go to waste. Sure, every now and then a glimmer of your skill will shine through, but never consistently.

The unfortunate reality is that money is the great motivator and once players get paid, even just their rookie contracts, some of them lose the motivation needed to allow their talents to flourish.

Thats very prominent is the nfl, players play lights out and give so much effort in a contract year, then poof crap.

Yet teams covet talent every year.

I think you can't over rate talent, but you can't under rate heart.

its not that talent is overrated. you need talent to win.

its that a lot of other things are under valued

like cohesion, leadership, discipline, being able to perform without mistakes

In 89 Jimmy J had little talent and won one game. Three years later he had alot of talent and won the Superbowl. Then in 95 Barry Switzer at best a mediocre coach won the Superbowl with the same roster. Talent and winning go hand in hand.

Talent alone will not win it is a combination of things. Then the next question are we talking superstar talent or we talking talented but not super ?

You have to have some talent. A lot of chemistry. A healthy team. And some luck. Then you can win it all.

Talent is too often only defined by physical tools such as speed and size. Mental toughness, heart, discipline and many other things are talents as well.
