Thank you. That's how you run a football organization. A sound GM does those things.

A sound GM doesn't get into those kinds of situation nearly as often as we do. We can't cut Ware or Romo. The cap hit would be a problem. JMO

The same people that want to hold on to big named over priced vets will be the same ones complaining that our backups suck when the vets are injured and eating up most of the salary cap space next season.

Would you rather have Ware at 12 million or two guys like Michael Bennett and Michael Johnson for about the same price combined?

Sooner or later all great players get paid. They get paid due to what they've already done not by what they might do in the future. Ware has earned his current contract.

Would I prefer to have younger and better players? Of course. Who wouldn't? What I want and what we'll get are two different things because Ware will be back and I doubt he'll take a pay cut.

Even if he didn't hurt his knee, the cost to franchise him was equal to arguably the two best 4-3 DEs on the market combined. The knee situation makes it even worse.

The price of top FA DL was considerably lower than JJ forecasted and sunk all the money in Spencer (again). Great research on his part...lazy lazy family.

Yeah, two or three free agents are better than Demarcus Ware.

Damn, one bad year and youre done. Hes not even that old, jesus.

I understand the concern about his health and production. I think when you combine that with his salary you get the consternation we're seeing.

I hear what you're saying, but it doesn't matter who's around Ware on the DL if he can't stay on the field himself. They were plenty of times when teams would single-block Ware, double Hatcher, and Selvie would essentially be the only guy making an occasional play. I think it's more than injuries and age with Ware. Something hasn't been right for a while now and I just think he's in decline mode. It happens to most if not all NFL players.

I agree, there is just no stopping father time. I think Ware shouldve sat out more games this year but perhaps he knew that there were no better options for the team at that point. Seriously, who the hell were those guys? Even a good percent of the sacks he got this year were garbage time. The injuries he looked to have were not serious enough to keep him off the field, yet were bad enough to render him ineffective.
I tend to take the optimistic view, especially with my favorite teams. Ive learned thie mechenism from time spent wearing my Astros hat. Like many fans Ill let Ware get away with more from past production and being a great guy all the way around. In reality, depsite his age, hes not that old. As stated before its not unreasonable to think that he can regain form. Its happened many times with players in his line of work many times at even a more advanced age.
Perhaps Id be a little more on board with parting ways if there were a couple of young stuts waiting in Wares shadow, but there simply arent any better options and I honestly dont think that there is going to be much on the market either. Therefore Im left hoping for some magic in the draft and leaning on the fact that there hasnt been many players that ever could compare with Demarcus and that he will regain form.

Its never good to have a player thats fleecing the franchise for loot, being from age, injury, drive or whatever. In my opinion if anyones going to do it, I guess I have it be Ware. That being said I dont have a problem believing he will play strong in the future. 12m Strong? I dont know, probably not.

You either don't understand the salary cap, don't know how much keeping Ware at his current cap figure would detriment the team, or just don't care. Unfortunately it is a business and you don't keep declining 32 year old pass rushers with his salary. It's a business and you don't have to like it but being sentimental in this business is good way of ensuring you're never truly competitive.

you either didnt read my post, dont understand the market, havent looked at the roster or dont realise whats going to happen anyway.

Here are 3 things to come to terms with:
He will be here next year.
He will have a better year.
He will earn too much money.

Right now with Ware and Austin on the team this yr with no changes Dallas is 1.99 mil over the cap. This screen shot shows you what happens in 2015 with just cutting Ware this yr and making Austin a june cut

What have we won with Tony Romo? Would you say that we should also cut Tony?

I'm a big Romo fan but I think we may have to move on sooner rather than later. I was hoping he could play 2-3 more years but I have my doubts as to whether his back will be OK. Truth be told, we haven't won squat with Romo. And our chances of winning anything with him in the future does not look very promising at the moment. Unfortunately, we can't cut Romo due to his huge contract. After the 2014 season, we can if he can't/doesn't play well.

Thanks for posting that site.

So, the real benefit of cutting him this year will be for the 2015 season? How much of a difference would it be if he were cut after next year?

For your next trick why don't you tell me the weekend Powerball numbers, future man.

You can't convince delusional 17 year olds of anything!!!

How? Selvie had a better year than Clay Matthews and Jsason Pierre Paul and many other great players. Does that make him better than them? Should they all be cut?
How do you do it? How do you sit there and think that Selvie is better than Ware?

I don't think the Selvie is better then Ware and your turning the point. Selvie
s last year was more productive. The decline has began for Ware is all most of us believe. I don't think Jones will pull the trigger. I just think he should.

Ware had one bad year. Its not uncommon for guys his age or older at that position to have a strong bounce back year.
He makes a ton of money but only a fool would think that he is done.

But here's the thing.....we've seen the best from Ware. If we couldn't win with him in his prime, why on God's green earth would we think we could win with an over-the-hill Ware?

The same can be said for Romo and Witten.

It's time to start transitioning from some of these guys who have been a part of this losing culture. That's why I wouldn't be interested in resigning Spencer or Hatcher for big money, long term deals.

We've had those players at their best and rarely made the playoffs. We shouldn't be tying ourselves to aging players who are clearly on the back-side of their career.

With Jerry's track record I'm sure we will, though. Then they'll spend the next 5 years restructuring deals, pushing salaries to the right to make up for their latest round of personnel salary gaffs.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
