Nate Newton on TC today.

Newton: all im looking at with Claiborne is he ready to compete. IDC if he's rusty or if he's bad but is he ready to get in the mix.

After practice Claiborne was out on the field practicing with a guy running in front of him simulating WRs.

You can see alot in one on one matchups to see where a player is at the Cb posistion.

Randle seems ready to grab the starter role. Coaches had the tell him to take it down a notch during walk thrus. Looks ready for TC and to hit and put on he pads.

Randle and Lee i feel are going to set the tone at TC says Newton. Randle because i think he wants to get people to forget what was in Dallas last yr. And Lee is just ready to get back on the field.

Coaches feel Hitchens best spot is the middle, but is the best player at SAM. Depending on what happens there at SAM we will see what eventually happens with Hitchens,

Newton: Chris Johnson still has alot left i that tank, S Jackson "come on homebody you going to trip on something out here"

Newton: What Dallas needs at RB is a guy who can find the holes, and run the ball and understand 3rd down situations. The guy who can do that with this OL is going to have success behind this OL.

Dont sell the passing game short. Teams always put emphasis on Romo to Dez for 60 yr TD over Murray for 4--6 yrds a carry.

You have to have chunk plays. Teams will gamble on you so you have to be able to get over the top to rethink what theyre doing.

Think by the 7 or 8th game this defense is going jelling really good and we will see what theyre going to be.

Charles Haley joins the show

"im better than nate, he's just loud but im gorgeous"

Mickey: you ready to talk at ur HOF speech
Haley: i always talk, just not to the media
Mickey: you talk to me
Haley: yeah cause you ugly

If you thinking about winning a game you wrong, if you thinking about making the playoffs you wrong, you should be thinkin bout winning the superbowl. Thinking bout anything less you need to be cut.

Last yrs chemistry on this team was great, and thats what im looking for this yr. They went out on got a great a DL.

This is what i hate about this HOF thing, its a individual thing. I dont talk about me, i talk about we. Couldnt have made it without all of us.

Ronnie Lott i used to follow him around like a little puppy because i couldnt
figure out his game. And one day he told me i play without fear and thats all i needed to hear.

Tony Tolbert, had to be one of the meanest guys on the field. He didnt take no lip, i
couldnt talk trash to him. You cant talk trash to a baller.

Somebody asked me to describe the superbowl in one word.....Relieved

What do you think about Gregory?
He's a rookie right now with alot of pressure. I tell the coaches let him go and be instinctive. I told him you a passrusher, use your instincts because if you sit on that line and think you gonna get smashed.

Rob Phillips: you said Hardy might be the hardest worker you've ever seen besides you, what kind of impact do you think hes goingto make?
When Greg came here they were booing the Cowboys and yesterday they wre telling him they want him to lead the defense. I said to him thats how they are Greg, put you down one week and love you the next. He has the potential to just take over the game. But and i told him this, a closed mouth dont win no game. He needs to push these guys. You got to lead them. And he leads thru example, but sometimes you got to verbalize them. if you cant visualize, you cant verbalize them you know haha.

I should get paid for this, you need to tell Jerry to write me a check.

What about Hardys talent?
He can rush the passer and he's going to play inside a little bit. Aye, i think hes going to be a offenses nightmare. During that 4 game suspension i told him we are going to have some one on ones. We gonna work
together cause there aint gonna be no let down. I believe in him and i believed in him when he walked in here, we all makes mistakes.

What about Lawrence?
He came on at the end, we dont need to talk about what happened before that.

When they put Hardy inside that stops everything and focus goes to him inside creating single matchups outside and thats gonna be fun to watch.

One of my all time favorite....top 10.

One of my favorites too. Just seeing what a huge difference he made to those early 90's Cowboys teams... it was easy to realize what a great player he really was.

McClain's suspension might be a blessing in disguise. If Hitchens can excel at MLB while he's gone, even if Hitchens moves back to SLB when McClain comes back, he makes McClain expendable next year.

I really liked the segment at the end of today's show.

Q: Will Gavin Escobar get more playing time this season?

Nate: He have to demand it. As much as Jason Witten don't want to come off the field, through his (Escobar) play, his preparation, he should be another one of those guys the coaches have to tell to slow down. He has to demand it because you can't get better if you don't play.

He has to demand it, be like, "coach, I want to play." And when you get in there...perform.

Mickey: And that's the big thing with him, it's not a matter of how much playing time he gets but what he does with the snaps he gets.

Nate: Yes.

Mickey: When they go to you, you can't drop a ten yard pass over the middle, you have to gobble that thing up.

Nate: Thank you, yes sir.

Mickey: And when you start doing that, Tony Romo has confidence in you, 'cause I guarantee you what a QB does is, he's looking out there and he sees Escobar and he hesitates, thinking he might have a better option. I don't want a QB having second thoughts about throwing to me.

Nate: That's right.

Rob: Yeah, there's only so many times he will get thrown to.

Mickey: Right, with Witten out there.

Rob: The question, too, is he going to expand his role into something beyond just that situational passing TE?

Nate: Situational, slot, yeah.

Mickey: But will you get that opportunity? That's the thing, you got Witten sitting in front of you.

Rob: And you got James Hanna, too, who is probably more of a blocking TE.

Mickey: Right, Escobar just has to become a threat in the passing game where the defense knows they can't ignore him.

Nate: And you know what, I'm going to tell you something, be a better blocker. I would take reps from Hanna. OK, I can't take reps from Witten right now, but I'm gonna get some of Hanna's reps.

I'm gonna tell you something, blocking is a technique and "want to" thing, it's like defense. Defense is a "want to" thing, how bad you want to get to the ball, how bad you want to get on the field. And that's what these walk thrus are about, your technique, your knowledge of the scheme. And if you got the knowledge of the scheme and your technique, when they put on pads, you can go faster.

Mickey: I was looking around because I wanted to make sure 82 wasn't standing behind me, he's not the greatest god given blocker, but he tries and he works at it (Nate: Yes, he does.) And I talked to him once about when Escobar got here and I said, "he's not much of a blocker." Witten says, "Mick, what do you think we do? We screen block, you just got to know how to shield guys off, how to take angles and keep them from getting where they want to go. I'm not pancaking anybody on the line of scrimmage."

But you got to get angles and screen guys off, Escobar has to learn how to do that. You don't have to be some big mauler up there, he's not the third TE who comes in for the running game, that's not going to be Escobar.

Rob: He does have a more slender frame than the other two, but like you said, it's about positioning and technique.

Mickey: (pointing at Nate) And being willing.

Nate: Let me tell you something, I seen him bend his knees. If you can bend your knees, you can block. The problem is when you can't, you're stiff, you can't block. He can bend his knees and it's about having will. The bottom line is this right here (Mickey: Rob and I can bend our knees) regardless of what we think, Witten isn't going to play forever.

And what Escobar don't want to happen, is that something happens to Witten, and here we go, we need you, and you don't come through? They're drafting another guy. Not only is the guy they draft high going to automatically go ahead of you but Hanna still got you beat because you can't block nobody. Don't let that happen to you, they gave a high pick for you, expand you game. However you can, expand you game.

Good advice for Escobar but one thing he doesn't do is drop passes. Not sure why they implied that

I've seen him drop one now and then but when it's the only thing you do well, you simply can't afford to -- ever.

If you can get past the way Haley speaks, his words have HUGE meaning...(not talking about the obvious truths, such as Mickey is ugly)...the defense needs to have that attitude, that "edge" to them...I don't think anyone feared them in recent years...it is time to fear them a little and you do that by smashing the opponent in the mouth...the Tolbert comments resonate with me...no one wanted a part of him (apparently), but he wasn't the best player on the field either...

...looking forward to se how this defense goes once they are at full strength
