I knew LVE was 6'4", did not realize Jaylon Smith was 6'3". Definitely we've moved on from the Dat Nguyen and Dexter Coakley LB mold. Even Sean Lee is 6'2", wondering if any other team has such a size tandem playing the LB positions.

Jaylon is 6'2"...not really above average height. He's a strong thumper though.

Comparing LBers from 15 years ago? Yeah, I'd say we moved on too. We've also moved on from Joey Galloway, Drew Henson, Kareem Lattimore and Darren Hambrick.

We finally got some vey good LB's. Something they ignored for a long time.
But they still ignore S & DT. Though the DT's aren't playing too bad right now. But still lack that stud all pro type.

IIRC we looked for the smaller but quicker LB's in the early 2000's.

But we've moved on from the Dexter/Nguyen(~6' tops and or 220-230lb) mold after Parcells came in.

The main difference now is that we spent quality picks on the rare athletic, big linebacker that usually goes in the top half of the first round.
Smith was projected to go high in the 16 draft pre injury. Seen top 5, but realistically he was a top 10-12 pick.
His range is usually found in the 220lb range guys like Deon Jones and Jerome Baker(rookie).
LVE had he played in the SEC would of been way more coveted. But playing in the MWC and having only one year of starting made some scouts wary of his true value.

Right, why can't we have all-pros at all 22 starting positions??? F'ing Jerry Jones:facepalm:

They all do not need to be all pros at every position. Did I say that?
I actually said all pro "type"...meaning a very good player "type" and one at S one at DT. Not at both S or DT spots.
Right now they are average at best.

So learn to read and comprehend.
 to you.

As long as you have the agility and speed to play the position. Many tall guys just do not have the quickness or agility we see from LVE and that is what makes him a special player to have size, speed and agility

It's one of the reasons why I warmed up to the Vander Esch pick after it was made. He is a giant out there. His upside with that frame is huge.

Risen, it's good to see you enjoying some of this now!

Folks, we are going to enjoy this group of linebackers for a while. There are very good run and pass defense skills that they bring to the field. There is still some youth that has to come together. They are very smart as far as linebackers go...with a whole bag of tricks

All pro types are not usually "very good players". All pro types are elite players. We need good, smart players at every level of the defense, sprinkle in a an all pro type (which we have in Tank, Jaylon and LVE) and this defense will be really good for several years. I do agree that we need an upgrade at Safety, but our DT's are doing just fine and we get Irving back soon.
