and we gave up 450 yards to that offense.

And our offense walked all over the Giants. Turnovers by Romo, Felix and Witten's heel hurt us, but DEFENSE is this team's concern. We've score over 30 points/game with no help from our defense. Our defense, not our QB, will be this team's undoing if it doesn't improve.

on 17 plays and there's only 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. I know NYG has a good defense, but TB is just plain awful on offense.

but Wade says we dont see what he sees in our defense

That about sums it up.

Yep all the flak romo takes and fact is without him or the running backs I am betting dallas is no more than 8-8 due to defense

It's obvious that they just showed up to play against us. They don't look anything like they did against us Week 1.

Sounds like a nice way to soft pedal how bad Dallas' D may actually be too

No, not at all, but I'm not going to sit here and say that they're that the Giants defense is that good either when we put up 31 points on them amidst 4 turnovers.

The Bucs showed up in week 1, just like everyone shows up against the Cowboys. Now it's business as usual for them.

Are people still making that idiotic A did this to B, B did this to C so A should do this to C argument? It's just plain stupid! Okay, check out the number of rushing yards we had against the Giants and against the Bucs. Maybe the Giants Dline should be concerned:rolleyes:

Despite the numbers we put on the Giants the D got put in some bad positions because of the turnovers. BOTH units played badly, but mainly the secondary. Seemed like Murphy's Law in effect on the NY game, everything that could go wrong - did.

Yeah it is so dumb but nobody ever learns their lesson.

Every game unfolds differently.

for the most part. 3 turnovers from our qb don't help though.

Yep, the argument is absolutely ridiculous. There are so many factors that change with each game that a team can look completely different week to week. This isn't Madden where everyone has a rating and they play the same way every time like robots. I was just shocked that a team could have that few yards from scrimmage. Didn't mean to start a thread where all the chicken littles could have their ***** fest.

You can't put too much stock into who beat who so......... Sounds like the college football national championship arguments. They play it on the field. And two games is not a big enough sample.

But you can see how teams perform from week to week and our team is good at playing inconsistent. You know what teams like the Ravens, Steelers, Giants, and Patriots are gonna bring to the table every week. All I want is this team to play good hard-nosed football and the Ws will be there, but somehow, someway one or more unit of our team finds a way to underachieve on a consistent basis.

Good defenses don't give up 251 yards on the ground, allow 8.7 yards per carry, and 31 points to a team whose quarterback finishes the game 13-29 with 127 yards and 3 interceptions. The Cowbys would have put up 300+ on the ground and 40+ points with better playcalling and game management and a absolutely average performance from Romo.

That said, the Cowboys defense looked bad against a bad Tampa Bay offense and terrible against the above average Giants offense. They will get more pressure and turnovers eventually and this will disguise the weaknesses against poorer teams but the multitude of problems (sloppy tackling, soft coverage schemes that show a lack of confidence in both personnel and scheme, below average safeties who struggle in run support and pass coverage, lack of interior line depth, no secondary pass rushing threat, no real blitzing threats at LB or DB, and poor coaching at the position level) mean this offense is going to have control the ball, limit turnovers, and put up points in bunches to win games. Unfortunately, that might get this team over .500 but it's not a recipe for playoff success.

This. I'm sorry, but the defense has been too average the past three years or so (short of one stretch of good play last year), and the fact that we've seen more of the same early on isn't exactly an encouraging sign. You people can scream about how every game is its own game, but this seems to be a bit of trend with our defense not just a one-time thing.

Obviously and I said that. But two were really his fault. The one off of Witten's foot was a fluke. Romo did throw behind him (all Qb's, including Eli that night, are off the mark sometimes), but it shouldn't have resulted in a pick. If the DB was covering him tight and picked the pass, then fine. If Romo throws an errant pass into double coverage (like he did on the deep one), fine. But Witten was open, he threw it behind him and it goes off his hand, then his heel into the guy's gut. I saw Eli throw one at Bradie's legs and it fell to the ground. THAT was more deserving of a pick than the Witten heel thing. The 2 picks were bad decisions and bad throws. The Witten heel pick was part of the Murphy's Law thing we seemed to have going that day. God forbid we got ONE bounce.

I said Romo was partially to blame (he played a bad game), but the defense really blew it at the end. Romo played poorly, but we were AHEAD with the Giants backed up to their 15 on that final drive. The pass D failed consistently. Our offense did not. Over 30 points WITHOUT the help of a turnover. I am much more worried about our pass D than our QB. It's not even close.

We can offer a myriad of excuses for the play of the Cowboys defense, but the harsh reality is that opponent offenses have been able to move the ball in any manner they've desired -- through the air or on the ground.

The Cowboys defense has been eviscerated over the past four games, surrendering 33, 44, 21, and 33 points over that span. Unfortunately, they've shown little indication of improving.

Perhaps Norm and several other posters on this board are correct; the defense simply isn't very good.

Great win by the Giants. We pretty did what I expected us to do, except for shut them out. They came into the game with a pretty good running game as they displayed against Buffalo and Dallas. That pretty much went out the window when they fell behind. No first downs till almost the end of the 3rd qtr? That's what you call pure domination. Anytime you do that on the road, it's a big deal, regardless of who you play. Finally, our defense shows up.
