Tank Johnson visits Bengals

Todd Archer E-mail News tips

A few weeks ago the Bengals visited with safety Roy Williams. This week, they have visited with nose tackle Tank Johnson.

Johnson spent the last two seasons with the Cowboys after he was cut by Chicago following an arrest for drunk driving that was eventually thrown out. Johnson had 45 tackles last season with one sack, three tackles for loss and nine quarterback pressures. He also forced a fumble last year ... against the Bengals at Texas Stadium.

The news regarding Johnson's future employment has been a little slow since he declared, "I'm a free agent, baby," walking off the field at Philadelphia following the 44-6 loss.

I am never going to get excited over how good someone looks in the offseason again. Never, Never, Never.

:lmao2:He had more fooled too.

From what I understand though he exacerbated things by not playing within the scheme.

He's dumb if he goes to a 3-4 team again...but I think in a 4-3 he can play well.

Exactly! Unlike others, I feel this guys got probowl potential in a 4-3. Especially a penetrating one. He actually held against the run (and double teams) when he wasn't freelancing. He also can push the pocket a decent amount and has above average pass rushing skills. His greatest asset though is probably penetrating in the run game.

As a 3-4 NT though, just doesn't have the mind set for it. And that is actually the most important thing for the big body lovers

See ya! I've only been this happy about one other player no longer being on the Cowboys as I am right now knowing that Tank will not be back with them.

Haven't heard much free-agent interest in defensive tackle Tank Johnson the last few weeks, but Johnson did visit with the Cincinnati Bengals this week.

Johnson had 22 tackles and one sack in a backup role for the Cowboys in 2008. He didn't seem inclined to return after the season and the Cowboys haven't made a pitch to him, either.

A move to Cincinnati would place him back in a 4-3 defense, the system in which he thrived before Chicago released him.

Jay Ratliff is expected to start at nose tackle for the Cowboys again next season, with free-agent acquisition Igor Olshansky taking Chris Canty's spot at defensive end. Junior Siavii, a college teammate of Olshansky's, and Tim Anderson, a former third-round pick, are candidates to back up Ratliff.

Haha, and his 1 sack came in his first game back. What a contribution this scrub was.
