In addition to Gholston, the Bears also released linebacker Tanner Antle, center J.C. Brignone, defensive tackle Tank Tyler and quarterback Trevor Vittatoe to get down to 80 players on the roster ahead of Tuesday's deadline. They will have to get down to 53 players by Saturday.

6' 2", 325 lbs
Tyler is a powerful space-eater who does a good job of clogging the middle and freeing up linebackers to run to the ball. He has above-average initial quickness but lacks the acceleration, once he gets to the edge, to pressure the pocket or create problems in the backfield. He has extremely strong hands that can shock opponents and shed blockers with ease.

getter done jerry CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!

I was a big Tank Tyler fan when he was coming out of N. Carolina State, but he's now been on three teams in five seasons. He's just not a presence on the field.

so was i...... i think bring im in and just kick the tires see if he can be a clogger in the middle... dude is supposed to be as strong as an Ox.

I was too. Even drafted him in a user mock that year.

But he's been a lazy malcontent since he's been in the league. No wikey. No wantey.

He'd have to show some ability in a hot minute. We're not far from the opener and I'm not sure how much time the guy would get to show he had anything. The one preseason game, I suppose, if we brought him in right now.

I've heard of him before, so he must be good.

I agree with this, but sometimes players just need more time than others to progress. A good example would be Remi Ayodele. He started off with the cowboys, then went to the Ravens, then back to the cowboys, then in his 4th year went to the Saints and has been a solid player for them the last couple of years.

We don't need a "Playmaker", just someone to keep the guards off our LBers.

No thanks, I like Brent for us at NT and if not Brent then we look to the draft next year.

i agree just someone to hold the point of ground on the running plays and not get pushed 3 - 4 yards back and let the LB's do there job of pursuit and fill in. cant be any worse than our 3rd NT that i cannot even think of his name cause he's never seen the field
