If you watch the "Hey Rookie, Welcome to the NFL," from 2010, Colt McCoy didn't really know the teams in the AFC north either. Definately thought that was odd.

Was talking with a guy in a bar one time and he said he highly doubted that ANYONE could name every team in every division in the NFL correctly other than maybe a sportscaster. I told him, "I can, and I bet a LOT of people could." He then insisted on betting me $20...easiest $20 I ever won

Call me a game day fan, I haven't missed a Cowboys game since I was a kid. I could really care less about any divisions other than our own. Sure, I know some rivalry division games, but I have no reason to memorize every division.

I'm with you there, I don't think I could sit here and type all of the divisions plus teams off the top of my head. I think I could get close though FWIW

OK, to be fair, I can see getting the AFC South or the NFC West a little confused, but how does anyone at least not know that the Vikings/Bears/Packers/Lions are in the same division or the Steelers/Browns/Bengals/Ravens are as well.

The NFL is so brilliantly constructed and organized - and makes so much sense - that these divisions have tremendous meaning and implications each and every week. Unlike basketball, hockey or even baseball, which are so much more haphazardly thrown together.

Division games in the NFL are HUGE. Conference games are also important, and even cross-conference games are critical because divisional teams play essentially the same schedule (other than two games).

Tannehill and McCoy are football idiots if they don't know this. I guarantee you Andrew Luck knows them, as did the Mannings.

I don't understand how a real football fan couldn't name all the teams in all eight divisions. They wouldn't even know who their team is battling for a division tittle or playoff spot. However, I bet alot of NFL players couldn't name the divisions cause they have been busy playing ball and not watching it.

I agree. That's really odd to me.

Rivalries and divisions are one of the first things you learn about. Should be especially easy these days considering the way the schedule works.

Yeah I'm a die hard Cowboys fan but I can name every team in every division, every starting quarterback, maybe a lot of other starters. And I don't know an insane amount about football. I mean as much as any normal football fan.

Who cares? Saying that someone doesn't know every single team in every division isn't a fan is like saying your not a fan if you don't attend some of the games every year and I've heard fans say that as well.......
