Tapper question

Cooper cut inside, stumbled, and cut back outside. It's the only reason he caught him. He did outrun the rest of his defense though.

lol. That's a damn DT you're talking about here. The fact that he ran all the way down field and was the one to make that tackle is enough to allow that video to stand on it's own.

Actually, the hype on Tapper has nothing to do with his 40 except as it stands with idiots.

If you watch the tape when he wasn't doing a 2-gap read. He was explosive. The problem is, there was minimal film of that because of the scheme he played in.

Tapper's mistake was he was young and naive. He signed with the biggest school that recruited him. That school was OU who wasn't a fit for his talent.

The real question is. How will he hold up against the run in the NFL. I think as a pressure guy, is much less of a question.

Yes, basically. The fastest time ever at 270+ pounds was really just an, "oh snap" moment.

If it is just running straight ahead like catching that guy 40 yards down the field, Tapper is great.

Even for shorter distances, Tapper's 10 yard time (1.59) was almost the best and better than Garrett (1.63), Bennett etc.
The only one with faster time is Willis at 1.54

Until tapper produces I will think nothing of him...

Him saying rod ran him hard last off season and it aggravated his back... very telling of his character to me

yes, for whatever speed he has, he must first not break like matt johnson

I didn't qualify it and spoke from reality. He would not have caught Cooper if he had not stumbled, and cut twice. I do not deny that it was remarkable nonetheless thus me saying he outran his entire defense. He's not faster than Cooper nonetheless.

I don't think he meant he was faster than Cooper. Just that it took speed to catch him. Speed like that from a d lineman 40 yards down field is impressive.

Reminds me a little of the Randy White play from 1980 against the Eagles.

I hold out some hope on Tapper. He seemed to be putting in the work during his rehab period during last season and now seems to be ready to get out there and prove himself.

I sure hope Tapper turns out to be a killer for the Cowboys. The clubs needs defensive help in the worst way. Chronic back problems are not a great sign for Defensive ends.

Usually not, but a pars defect is completely manageable. It only affects performance if core conditioning of the transverse abdominus/multifidus get poor. He is a hard working athlete. As long as he keeps his conditioning up, you won't even know he is hurt. It is the demarcus lawrences you need to worry about.

Speed alone doesn't dictate the ability to play. Which is why really fast 40 times get overblown so often by fans and mediots. If it were truly king, he would have been drafted well before the 4th round.

If he played in a 4-3 defense and that 40. What could have been never happen.

Tapper is still an unknown commodity, especially when it comes to his ability to remaining healthy and being a steady contributor. He has the apparent talent to get the job done if and when his back condition allows him to. Here's hoping, he'll get past his health issues this year.

Here's another reason to root for him. That's Amari Cooper. The guy that tackles him is a lil fella' named Tapper.

Warrior stuff.

He wasn't blaming Marinelli. He was too big for the scheme.

Charles Tapper: I have a birth defect, it's called 'L5 pars defect.' ... Me not being in the best shape coming to the Cowboys was what happened to me. Coming from OU I was sitting about 275-280 [pounds]. So coming here I was about 280, 275 trying to play a five-technique. As we all know [Rod] Marinelli, he didn't like that. So he was running and running me. It's kinda more of a fatigue injury I would say than injury of any sorts. Right now I'm feeling better than I ever felt in my life condition-wise, core-wise, strength, flexibility and everything.

Funny thing is, I believe Russell might have been a good player in another system, just not Marinelli's.
He is not killing it in Tampa's either. He was a classic case where they bet that Marinelli could fix a talented but shiftless player and it did not work. They really need to get out of this idea that he can make wine from water.

Marinelli did motivate him. He played his butt off in the preseason games and he was showcased for entire games. You could tell he was exhausted but gutting it out giving it all he could.

The issue was in the talent evaluation. He lacked the short area quickness to finish.

Tapper's 10 yard split is better than all the top DE prospects other than Jordan Willis.
Not sure if that is what you mean.
