The rules are beyond human comprehension.

I'd rather let the refs just make a judgment based on the ball being in control by the receiver like the old days. Today's rules are making it worse, not better.

The "going to the ground" clause is just stupid and unnecessary.

Blandino explained it's not the same as the Dez Bryant play because the receiver wasn't going to the ground.

I find the distinction questionable, as the receiver did end up going to the ground in the same manner Bryant was going to the ground - a defender prompted them both going to the ground. Neither would have fallen if not contacted by a defender.

If Tate is an established runner here, simply because he wouldn't have fallen if not contacted by a defender, the same logic should have applied to Bryant.

Seriously. The whole thing is just ridiculous at this point.

If the receiver has control, and passes the plane into the endzone, isn't that immediately a TD, and the play is dead at that point? Both look like TD'S to me.

Like the balk rule in baseball, I have no idea what's a catch anymore. My kids laugh at me when I say that, yet they both thought the Moncrief TD should not have counted last night before the refs okayed it. Lol.

To be fair, Tate didn't go to the ground (or start to go) until after the ball was out of his hands and he tried to reach for it and tripped. This would all be after the point he would have been deemed a runner (apparently). Nobody is very clear on exactly when someone becomes a runner anymore, it's whatever the particular official wants it to be.

the reason the catch rules are as they are is so that the league can change results of games to suit there needs to determine winner they want its a league any more its not about football is about fan duel and fantasy so any more when I watch I under stand what they are doing makes it easier to watch

I'm guessing the difference comes because Tate crossed the plane, where Dez was not.
Dez's catch was still clearly a catch, but NFL gonna NFL.

Blandino explained
Bolded wording is all that needs to be said. He's the one common denominator in all of this mess. Once he reversed the ruling on the field of Dez's catch, he placed himself in a very bad spot going forward. It's only going to get worse. Fans, in general, do not know what is/isn't a "catch" any more. For that matter, the players, coaches, and officials don't, either. When will Blandino ever be held accountable for this mess?
