Many are seeing disaster, saying things like the team doesn't have a TE who can catch passes, the team doesn't know how to use and TEs, and the team won't use this group of TEs, but is that really what we've seen this preseason?

To begin with, the team has played without its elite RB and most of the time without its starting QB and elite O-Line. And they have played without game planning.

Yet the TEs have caught 23 passes for 176 yards in 3 games. Not a particularly exciting ypc average, but significant yardage, and a sizable part of the offense. Overall, I would say it's a nice sign for a unit with all the things going against it mentioned in the paragraph above.

Regular season will include the starting QB, the elite RB, the elite O-Line (minus one), game plans, and no need to play everyone just for the sake of getting a look at them. With those benefits it's not at all unreasonable that the TEs could get a similar number of catches, and increase the ypc number 2-3 yards per catch. That would be a significant and sizeable contribution to the offense.

Our coaches do that in the regular season... You really want them doing it with garbage play at TE?

Are you saying you don't think they have game plans for regular season games, or are you saying they shouldn't game plan for the TEs because you think they are garbage? I assume you are saying the latter, and if so, you missed or ignored the rest of my post, which is that the TEs have done at least reasonably well in preseason with almost everything working against them, so there can be a reasonable expectation they can do well once those things are actually working for them instead of against them.

The first one... I have lost all faith in Garrett and Linehan game planning. I don't think they do, or know how to game plan for anything.

If you were an honest person you would look at the rest of the league and come to the conclusion that the cowboys are minimum bottom 3rd of the NFL in TE talent. I’d personally go as far to say for sure bottom 5...what some fans aren’t willing to admit is that every other team in the league also has several non-discript, marginally athletic, white TE’s on their roster like Blake Jarwin and Jeff Swaim. Our guys are somehow different to some because they have a star on their helmet.

And I wouldn’t ***** about marginal blocking TE’s.....If we had good WR’s.

They should if they want a true evaluation. Outsiders don't understand that!!! There is plenty of game planning in the preseason. The difference is you game plan for specific players to get game film.

They have coddled their elite players. It'll take them two or three weeks to get into game shape. Camp cupcake II

Not sure why people are worried about the TEs. The biggest question for them is whether or not they can block in the two TE sets. They aren't going to be big contributors in the passing game, but we're not going to need or expect them to be, either.

I prefer to use my eyes as a determination and they are all lousy.

Yeah, it hasn't looked good. That doesn't mean that we still can't be a decent offense if we utilize our WRs and RBs. But let's not pretend that we don't have the worst TEs in the league.

I still say most fans just follow the nagging about the TE’s or thos or that.
Most if not almost all can’t tell what their roles was on any particular play. As not everyone on here is specifically looking at the TE play every snap. Then the same peoples turn around and rag on some OL, or WR. You can’t watch every player every snap.

And 99% of fans watch where the ball is at. So if a running play, how can you watch all the other players as well as the actual play itself.

And the TV does not show every replay. And most the time they are still focused on the result of the play itself.

Now some may rewatch the game later but one still can’t tell a lot from what the assignment is.

I will ragged on for this, but it is closer to the truth than not. So be it.

So all this we “suck at TE” is overblown. IMO Anyway. And my opinion is not anymore right or wrong than most others.
It is all subjective.

well I believe in this case you are wrong, they game plan pretty well, get a lot of leads by halftime, their issue is they dont do well in in game adjustments to readjust once teams have either figured out how to stop them or players arent executing and we lose the lead, bad in game adjustments for sure..

Shhhh. A lot of us have made similar comments and unleashed the Kraken.

You're right... that is really what my biggest issue is with them. Go in at halftime, make no adjustments, just keep doing what isn't working. But game planning is still an issue... they are so vanilla, people figure them out fast.
