Do you know how the last time we successfully drafted a plug and play offensive lineman in the third round?
None of these guys: Connor McGovern, Chaz Green, Robert Brewster, James Marten, Stephen Peterman, Steve Scifres, Clay Shiver, George Hegamin, James Brown or James Richards. Those are our third-round offensive linemen since when we drafted Erik Williams (Richards and Williams were drafted the same year, 1991)
The point is, every year fans fall back into this mind-set that it's easy to just pick up starters in every round, especially the earlier rounds, but there's a whole lot more miss than hit.
We've had a lot more success in the second round, and even that's shaky: Larry Allen (hit 1994), Shane Hannah (fail 1995), Flozell Adams (hit 1998), Solomon Page (miss 1999), Andre Gurode (hit 2002), Al Johnson (miss 2003), Jacob Rogers (miss 2004), Connor Williams (hit? 2018)
