Recap
Pope coached under Parcells & Couhglin, has 4 SB rings.
He is 72 and still has passion to coach. Still thinks it's fun, but hard work too. And enjoys collectively creating a good gropu of players. He has known many of the players throughout the league from the combines. Known Jason Garrett since he was a player.
Said Mike Strahan told him one time...coach, one of these days your going to fall over out here, and we will need to cover your body in ice to hide the smell...

Witten, told him he didn't come here to retire, so hope he doesn't either...said witten is one of the few true TE's left, the overall TE. That can block & catch, do it all. Too many TE's now are either blocking or catching, not both. He's a very hard worker, and thinks Witten will give up the game, as opposed to father time taking it away from him.

Escobar, made some strides and they worked on body position, as to block lower, teaching him, and eveyone balance and leverage. To get lower to the level of the lineman.
Hanna has some size and runs well. Liokes the overall offense and that they are aggressive, and players have that attitude, better than some teams he has seen.

He makes the TE's wear goggles after practice, as they get 8 minutes after practice to refine a few things. Said they are looking through the face mask, so at times vison it limited. So the goggles are to make them look and focus on the ball. to turn their head. The face mask can blur the ball, so this helps them focus. He reminds them so they don't think they are playing catch with their grandmother.

They then talked about different coaching styles and how hard coached are on players. He said not like it used to be, with the new CBA. He said it actually causes less depth now than it used too. Maybe I can type that up a bit later.

He was asked, Parcells had a reputation of being hard on coaches too. He said Bill used to come to him before practice. Said, heads up, I'm going to cause a scene today...then later in practice, he would come over and chew him out in front of the players...so the players would think, wow, if he does that to a coach, what will he do to us.
This was to keep the players focused in TC, as not to get into the doll drums of camp. Keep them concetrating.

Yeah, that was pretty good.
I like about the goggles too, things we really wouldn't know about.

His best line: "people want to go to Heaven but they don't want to die." If that ain't the truth. I think I'm in love.

Yeah, I forgot about that. Made a note about it.

Talking about players giving it up, especially in the 4th quarter.

Absolutely. It applies in so many different ways. I'm definetly going to keep that in my back pocket.

The new cba is hurting the game

Yes, he commented, that before, long time ago. You signed players, they played together 6, 8, 10 years. They knew what to do in camp, how things go, they knew each other. So they could focus on the new players, getting them prepared. Knowing they can have them for 5 or 6 years or more. So you had depth, a player goes down, another steps in. They were prepared and much more ready to enter the game.

Now you don't have that, players switching teams, so you basiaclly are coaching many more younger players. They don't or can't have time to be ready. So a player is injured, more often than not you put in a player who really isn't 100% ready to go in and know the assignments. So therefore, it can make a very good team, not so good.
And don't we know this, for the past 2 years.

He siad that often isn't fair to the veteren players who prepared and played so hard, then to have it taken away, or seems too. But that's the way of the NFL now.
