TE Graham agrees to 5-year, $30M deal with Broncos

After losing defensive end Patrick Kerney in a bidding war to the Seattle Seahawks, the Denver Broncos weren't going to be outdone.

The Broncos outbid the Seahawks for Patriots tight end Daniel Graham in a negotiation that went well into Tuesday. Graham ended up with a five-year, $30 million deal from the Broncos that included $15 million in guarantees.

As negotiations drew to a close, Graham was torn as to which team was best for him. The idea of getting back to Colorado appealed to him. He went to high school in Denver. But the Seahawks situation was also appealing. They wanted to draft him in the first round in 2002.

Graham's father, Tom, played for the Broncos from 1972-74.

Graham's agent, Tom Mills, didn't shop the offers of either team but in the end he needed to see where the numbers would go. The Broncos stepped up at the ending by offering the most dollars and the most guarantees. Graham took the Broncos deal.

The former first-round choice of the Patriots was considered the top tight end on the free agent market.

didnt witten get less??

didn't __________ get less is what we'll be asking after every signing this off-season. The Witten and Williams deals will look outstanding in the future - however, it is the Eagles that really are going to have made out big time by locking up young guys for 7-10 years to come.

$30 mill for a blocking TE is just dumb.

He's not just a blocking TE. He's quite capable as a reciever, good hands, finds the gaps, and runs hard. IMO, he will definitely prove to be worth the bread.

So I guess the Pats will draft a TE, I wonder what bait they would take for Fasano since Dallas underuses him.

well they still have watson, thomas and brady, but I would imagine they would still draft one somewhere. They are very important to there offense.

he does but he is not a deep threat, he is the best blocking tight end in the league. He can catch for sure, but he is not a threat.

I guess going to the University of Colorado doesn't matter, just his high school.

They just acquired Brady once it was known they were not going to keep Graham.

But they will probably draft a TE or two as usual.

Also wonder if they will make a play for Randy McMichael if he has not already caught on somewhere.

From what I understand, McMichael is more of pass-catching TE than blocking TE, so I don't think he'd be a good fit there, since they do have Watson on the other side.

Quite frankly the Eagles front office deserves kudos for how well they manage the cap.

At least until all these player start looking at the guys next to them, who are not as good as they are - making more money - and decide to pitch a fit in the offseason.
