Geoff Swaim 26 receptions for 242 yards. 9.31 avg. LNG 43 yards 1TD

Blake Jarwin 7 receptions for 79 yards. 11.29 avg. LNG 16 yards 0TD

Dalton Schultz 5 receptions for 39 yards. 7.8 avg. LNG 17 yards 0TD

Rico Gathers 2 receptions for 46 yards. 23 avg. LNG 23 yards 0TD

Total 40 receptions for 406 yards. 10.15 avg. LNG 43 yards 1TD

JASON WITTEN 2017
63 catches for 560 yards. 8.9 avg. LNG 28 5TD

I'd say the only area we miss Witten is the red zone, but 5TDs is not exactly all that great considering he played nearly every snap.

Witten was also costing about 3 times the salary cap of all the tight ends combined.

I miss his blocking.

I'd like to see them use Noah Brown as a TE... I think he'd be a great one!

Swain was playing decent
I think witten brought a comfort that is missing

Don’t care about salary cap.

We miss having a predictable 3rd down move the chains guy that Witten was...

Now that said Witten was on the downside of his career so I get no pleasure in comparing a group to a guy when he wasn’t that good anymore.
The goal should be to get better not to get only marginally worse..

Nice write-up. Witten was the better blocker of the bunch. We really miss his blocking, I think. I wonder how many penalties Swaim/Jarwin/Schultz/Gathers have vs Witten. Seemed like Witten had a lot of false starts and sometimes holds.

A comparison of targets would be very meaningful when comparing stats.

I miss his blocking.
His last couple of years he wasn’t a great blocker. In fact, he was probably a liability in that regard. One of the things that is forgotten about the 2016 season is how much the offense regressed when Swaim got hurt and wasn’t there to use his blocking skills.

Red Zone and 3rd & short.

There were a lot more targets to Witten. I think he was the old go to on the check down and now it seems to be Zeke. If this years group was targeted at that rate the production would be just about the same. Witten was a stud in his prime and while he was still a solid player in 2017 I don’t think they’ve dropped off that much with him gone.
