I'd love to upgrade the position....be careful on expectations for a rookie TE though, outside of QB its probably the toughest position to adjust to the NFL.
TE is a weird position in that it both has a long learning curve and brings low value.
If you look at the first round TEs in the past, none of them none would be redrafted as high again today. Pitts is a different dude and he's going to be a star, but Noah Fant, Hock, Evan Engram, OJ Howard, Ebron... none of those guys lived up to expectations. They were all drafted to be the next Travis Kelce and none of them are half of Kelce. I still have some hope for the Iowa guys if they get in different passing offenses, but that also shows you how dependent TEs are on the guys around them.
I like the way the Cowboys have been playing it.... get cheap TEs, and have them ride the bench for 1-2 years while they bulk up in the weight room and learn blocking assignments. I'm all for taking another cheap stab at it this year. Paying a vet in FA isn't the worst idea either, as he's already come up the learning curve and will be ready to contribute way faster than a rook.
McKeon is slow as an O-Linemen.
Schultz is one of our best receivers. The problem is hes the worst blocker ive ever seen in the NFL at TE.
I would draft a great blocking TE in the 3rd or 4th (Ferguson from Wisconsin) and still keep Schultz as a receiver.
I do believe we take a TE in the draft but seriously doubt it will be the 1st round. Who are those considered to be the best TE in the league right now, George Kittle or Travis Kelse or Rob Gronkowski or maybe a couple of others. None of them were 1st round guys. You can and will get great TE all through the draft but 1st round should be LT or S or OC for us in 2022.When you watch teams that have strong running games they all have good TE’s on the edge. It’s such an underrated position in the run game. I have watched Schultz miss his block so many times. And, sprinkle and Mckean are not NFL players. It’s a big weakness on our team. A bigger, stronger TE would also help Dak. He lacks a security blanket underneath. I can’t tell you how many times I see Lamb, Cooper, Gallup 20-25 yards downfield and there’s no outlet. We need a true game wrecker at TE.

I’m with you. It’s offensive line maybe 2. But I wouldn’t mind a TE in the 2nd or 3rd. I also wouldn’t mind a RB in fact my first needs are oline,TE,RBDisagree.
Schultz is good and it takes a TE years to develop. You don’t get a quick return on investment.
Offensive line is our top priority imo.
McKeon appears to be a bit quicker than Schultz.McKeon is slow as an O-Linemen.

Bennett did have a pretty solid career thoughI said 2nd round. Witten was a 3rd rounder. Fasano, Marcellus and the kid from San Diego State were 3rd rounders.
Howard looked like he was going to be a stud until he kept getting hurtDisagree.
There's some misses in the names you referenced but Hockenson was a Pro Bowler last year. Fant hasn't played with any QB stability whatsover and still has put up very respectable numbers; Ebron has been a Pro Bowler and had some good seasons; Engram has been erratic and Howard just never emerged.
