Team Under Construction

In 3 years.....Sean Lee, Zeke Elliott, Tyron Smith, Demarcus Lawrence, Cole Beasley, Allen Hurns, Tyrone Crawford, Randy Gregory, Terrance Williams, and others will likely all be gone.

If the franchise really believes Dak is the guy, they have to strike right now.

Best run game in the league. Very promising defense that could be elite quickly with the right signing or two. A talented, although unproven, group of receivers with speed.

Now. This is a one-year league if you have a QB you believe in.
Do you think they will not try this season? Of course they will but just because a team has a QB does not make them a contender and we don't know what they really think.

And best run game in the league is inaccurate, even when we had the leading rusher, we did not have the best run game. And even if we did have that, which is better, the best run game or most potent passing game.

erod, does it look like they're getting ready to strike this season with what they did at WR? Bunch of #2's and rooks for a QB that is still a ? whether they want to admit that or not.

And that's the really tricky part of the rebuild. What if he isn't the guy?

It’s the “still two or three year away” from serious contention post we get every year.

In 2014 all these threads were that we had the worst defense of the last 30 years and we went 12 - 4. In 2016 they were about tearing down for a copmplete rebuild and we went 13 - 3.

Every year is the same, there are a bunch of factors internal and external that will determine the team's final record. But so far we have a bunch of positive signs like Jaylon, Gregory, Taco, Awuzie, etc.

Man, I wouldn't call it a rebuild. That defense is looking pretty freaking built out there, and the offense is going to improve drastically once the OL gets 3 starters back and Zeke Elliott is toting the rock instead of Bo Scarbrough.

I think the biggest problem this year is that the NFC is loaded, and there are 4 or 5 legit Super Bowl contenders whose level we just aren't at yet. MIN, Rams, GB, PHI - I wouldn't favor us against any of them, and it's going to make it hard to go anywhere in the playoffs . But we have shown in the preseason that we can clean up the average teams just time. In 13 drives against SF, ARI, and CIN - pretty much a full game's worth - the 1st string defense gave up 0 points.

This isn't going to be our year, but we aren't as far off as some of the naysayers are claiming. We just need to keep building and making smart financial decisions and wait for the salary cap to churn the NFL again. LAR are looking like they are all in for 2018, with some one year rentals on studs like Suh and Peters and minimal draft picks the last 3 years to keep young, cheap players coming in behind them. PHI is flush against the cap right now and Carson Wentz's salary is going to jump soon from $6 mil to probably $26-$28 mil. Etc. The contenders are going to look very different in 2 years than they do now.

We've got the money to pay Dak and our young guys, so there's no rentals leaving or roster purge upcoming. Just keep making good draft picks, signing good contracts, and we are going to keep winning games.

Wow. So we are year 3 into Dak's rookie contract that is up next season and Zeke's is up in 2 years. You just went all in on the OL in terms of salary cap percentage and you are telling me this team is still under construction and waiting? You do realize Dak is going to get paid and so is Zeke. And if what you say is true, we would have massively wasted that opportunity while they were cheap. Yay go coaching staff and front office! We are the epitome of one year away from being one year away. What sums that up is we let Hitchens walk and then use a 1st round pick resource to fill his replacement in LVE who isn't even close to his skill level. So we got weaker in LBs and had to use a 1st round pick just to do it. That sums up the last 2 decades. Drafting to fill holes instead of drafting to strengthen the team.
Yes, under construction. And they have been filling holes on the D side while building the O side. They just got around to the D the last two drafts.

Weaker at LB's is your perception and unproven at this point. Did you think Hitchens was worth what KC is paying him? Don't know about Vander Esch yet but he was consensus 1st rounder with limited experience and a high upside.

I am calling this D a rebuild until I see the DTs and S's play and know if Vander Esch is the answer or is that ? still hanging out there. It looks to be a lot closer than in the past but I would not call it complete yet.

In the weeks that Zeke has played, the Cowboys lead the league in rushing by a good margin, I believe.

Yes, I'd prefer the most potent passing game, but this is where we are.

You can win with a dominant defense and run game.

I think with a healthy Romo or other QB they were sure about, ET would be here. Their reluctance in doing anything big tells me they have reservations.

Oh, there's question marks for sure, but pretty much every defense out there has a couple question marks or holes in it. That's just the nature of cap era football.

I think this defense could finish as a top 10 unit if we get decent injury luck and a full season out of Gregory.

We seem to be witnessing a changing of the guard from a team that has ridden the offense every season to one that will be dependent on the defense.

I would like to say this team is balanced like the great Cowboys teams of the past but it isn't really, at least doesn't seem to be but that's OK as long as we accept what is really happening.

Regardless of what Booger would have you think, this team is in the middle of a rebuild and is not really a contender yet. As fans, we see what we want to see and not what is really there too often. We think a mid level player will suddenly become better just by donning that Star. We make good players great and excuses for mid level players doing their best, maxing out their talent.

This is not a contender season for me. It is a season to assess the strengths and weaknesses and address that in the off season to get to contender status.

And what was once the perceived strength of this team, the OL, is now a ? with not only starters but depth. But what was the perceived weakness, the DL, is now considered strength, at least at that DE position.

For each of us, the enjoyment of this Cowboys season is dependent on one thing, our expectations. I am not expecting much more in the way of a record than last season but I am expecting to see the team go about that in a different way. Because, except at QB, the offense is easier to fix than the defense and I am expecting an improved defense but, at the same time, an offense not as good as in the past but that's OK.

It's not whether they admit to a rebuild or not, it is how they go about that and so far that looks like the right way to do it. This defense appears to be a hell of a lot closer than as far away as they've been in the past and that's the first step in building a sustainable contender.

The present does not look a lot better but the future does. And that's the way I will watch this team play.

I actually don't see them in a rebuild. Garrett & Dak next contracts are on the line. What I see is defense trending up, very good OL, great RB and unknown QB. This all comes down to Dak - if he has good year they are playoff team. If he stumbles its 7-9, 6-10 team and we are talking about moving up in draft for QB. And discussion will move to is Kris Richard next head coach.

They're not building this team
They're just treading water

First they had to build the team
Then the offense was ready but they had to build a defense
Now tge defense is ready but they have to rebuild the offense

This is just rinse and repeat

Team Under Construction

how many years for the O line going ahead ?

and our QB I just don't see him as winning a SB

This team is Basilica i Temple Expiatori de le Sagrada Familia.

For those that don't know, this was a Roman Catholic Cathedral that started construction in 1882 and won't be complete until 2026.

So kind of like the Dallas area toll roads?
Man I love the toll roads especially the 635 tunnel. So sweet and that star illuminates at night. One time I was down there crusing and there were absolutely 0 cars in both directions. Man I felt like a king

bd, don't know how you're ranking top 10 unit but they were 8th last season in yards and 13th in points but only .4 out of 10th. 8th against the run and 11th against the pass. They were not good in turnovers and they were in 2014, 2nd in picks.

Right..

If this defense meets its potential this year along with our running game we could be only a greater QB away.

If we had one of the hot young QB’s I think we would be a serious contender right now.

That’s how the Eagles and Rams became contenders practically over night. And how most are calling for 49ers to emerge. Houston is a great QB away. Maybe Buffalo.

Our QB must take it to the next level or bow out. It’s a shame because he could still be a great backup for us if he’s not enough. We shall see. We’re all rooting for him to be the one.

HOU might have him, he was on his way before being injured.
