Ten teams that could go defense
At this point it appears close to 10 teams are looking to have a defensive draft in the first three rounds.
The Bears, Bengals, Cowboys, Broncos, Lions, Colts, Giants, Eagles, Steelers and Chargers might all consider three defensive players in the first three rounds if the draft falls the right way. The men running the draft for these teams are too smart to draft exclusively for need, and I don't suspect we will see any of them take a defensive player with a fourth- or fifth-round grade in the first three rounds.

But I do expect a few teams to be disappointed when the well runs dry before they satisfy their defensive needs. By my count there are close to 13 players that fit in the DE/OLB category depending on the scheme being played, and that should be enough to have every GM say they got the guy they wanted somewhere in the first three rounds.

I'm not so sure the same could be said for the defensive tackles, which I break down later in this article. As for middle linebackers and inside linebackers for 3-4 teams, it appears to me that the need far outreaches the supply and that could cause a few teams to reach for C.J. Mosley, Ryan Shazier, Christian Jones, Chris Borland and Preston Brown, among others.

For a team in need of a FS, this is a terrible draft....after the first couple, it's a real crapshoot. I have done multiple online drafts and it's almost impossible to get a good one outside the first round, occasionally one in the early second. If we don't get a Pryor or Ward...I almost dount we pick a true safety. Some of the later big corners might make good conversions to FS.

Well than it would foolish to force picks. There are plenty of properly valued mid round guys that can help this defense. Take BPA early, particularly if it is an O Lineman.

It seems like the strongest need that the Cowboys have in any particular year is also the weakest area of that year's draft lol.

Again I think to hold a rigid dogmatic philosophy about the draft [ or anything] isn't prudent.
Identify your guys and get them. If that means moving up at a good price fine. Drafting a little early
fine. You should stay away from this early drafting and moving up as a principle but not as a law of drafting
only as a rule.Your going to have misses both ways.

I agree. You have to be flexible and think on your feet. Sometimes it'll burn you, but your chances of getting burned are high either way.

Add Joyner to that list he can be had in the second as well. And he can start at FS and play the nickel on third down.

Of course it is. Doesn't it always end up that way? You watch in a year or so Romo will go down we will go 1-15 and all the QB prospects will suck!

Hopefully at least four QBs go in the top 15. Seems like the run on the position we need the most is the same every damn team wants also.

When Dallas finally decides to draft Romo's replacement, it will be during a ten year stretch of the worst QB prospects ever. They should have sucked for Luck when they had a chance. He is worth it.

Luck is a beast, but he's not great yet. The INT's need to be corrected.

This team needs help at so many positions that just taking BPA should work out fine for them,,, no need to reach. If they don't get a top DL, oh well, it's not like they can't use the best guy on the board.
