Teams playing this weekend vs Dallas

What Dallas lacks compared to the teams still playing are young or in their prime cornerstone type of players. They were all over the field today for all teams involved. Dallas has a lot of average to good players and is a deep team overall. This a positive thing. However, outside of Ware, Witten and I guess Newman (I like him, but he's not a true playmaker), there isn't a single slam dunk cornerstone type of player on the team. And a cornerstone at TE is a bit of a stretch IMO.

We all hope Romo will be, but no one can say that with any certainty yet (and this is coming from a Romo supporter). TO, Fergy and Glenn are on the downside. Maybe some young guys will emerge, but right now I really feel like the Eagles, Saints and Bears have an upper hand that could very well last for a period of time.

What Dallas is lacking is a leader on defense. They need someone like a Ray Lewis who can fire up the defense and get them ready to go.

Our defense would have been fine if Ellis had never got hurt. We add another pass rusher next year and the defense will be worlds better.

what they lack is a good oline that can impose their will and a dline that can create pressure.

for all the credit given to sean payton. he just lined up and ran deuce. and the dline got so much pressure despite the eagles wrs running free all day long.

Ellis did not act like a leader at all. First he complained when he found out that he was going to move to OLBer. Now he did play good, but a leader is someone who can make others perform better. Ellis never fired up the defense, nor did he show emotion when he played.

Not the point. The thing is, if Ellis doesn't go down, there's a pretty decent chance that we and not New Orleans may have advanced to the NFC championship game. Remember we had a Top 5 defense when Ellis was in uniform.

Ding Ding Ding.. we have a winner.

No ability to pass rush and no ability to run the ball, or even pass block for that matter, when we really need to spells mediocrity even if the QB and other skill players are good enough.

Let's go through positions, there are a lot of holes....

QB- I like Romo, but he's not proven.

RB- let's be honest here, our starter is lower tier NFL starter caliber at best.

WR- The stars are old. We don't have a R. Brown, M. Colston or Berrian type on this team that's still getting better AND proven. We have two guys that are good WR's in the twighlight of their career, a solid #3 guy and a bunch of ST's unproven players.

TE- Witten is a stud

OL- No Jamal Brown, S. Andrews, T. Thomas type to speak of. I like Gurode and Columbo, but we're talking good players. Nothing wrong with that, I just don't see them as "dominate" type of linemen. Also, they could be UFA's. Flozell is old, Rivera sucks and Kosier is average (nothing wrong with avg, but you get my point).

DE- I like Hatcher, but he's not a proven cornerstone. Jury is out on all the others as well.

NT- Its Fergy then not much. Fergy isn't getting any younger.

MLB- I like Aydole-good player. James is robbing JJ. Decent depth. No game changer to speak of.

OLB- Ware is a stud. I like Carp, may be a cornerstone type of guy, or may just be solid. Burnett files his roll well.

CB- Newman is very good-just not great since he can't catch a cold from the CB position. Henry may be a FS, we'll see-pretty good player IMO. Glenn was great his first year here and pretty good last year. But he's old. I like Watkins, but the jury is out.

Dallas, quite frankly, is lacking a lot of stuff. They are a lot further away from the prize than most think IMO. OL, DL, S, LB's, CB, youth at WR, not sold on Romo, poor coaching, poor scheming.

New Orleans would have PASTED us again if we played them.

They need to start at the top to get the ball rolling IMO. Even if fat@$$ returns for another year, I question whether the players will give it their "all" with a 'lameduck' coach.

Not knowing what your future holds as a player (as far as who the headcoach is, or wil be) is without question, distracting.

This is a no-brainer for me but I guess that's why I'm not Jerry Jones.

If Bill stays, expect more of the same, until he get his fat @$$ out of town.

OK, carry on.............. :)

Morning Sarge.

I guess you are saying that Bill is the root of the problem.

I understand the thread starters opinion.

But there is youth on the Cowboys, and playmakers. They are being outcoached at this point.

So Sarge, I agree with what you stated. It lays on the HC's lap when this is the case.

If losing Ellis doomed us, then we are a lot farther from being good than I want to be. This team, this year went pretty much injury free, other than Ellis. Every other team had serious injury probelms, but kept going.

The Eagles lost Kearse and McNabb, the Seahawks lost their secondary. They didn't quit playing because of it and made excuses. SD lost Merriman for 4 games, and they didn't miss a beat. You know why? Because thye have coaching who makes admustments to the situations.

If one injury dooms your season, then you're not very good, or you have some pretty ****ty coaching on your team who can't adjust to save their lives.

Romo- we shall see. It all depends on how he takes this season to heart and how much internal discipline he has as regards taking chances, etc.

RB: Solid with our two guys. Not great, but solid.

TE: Stud at starter and lots of potential at #2.

WR: Age does not bother me all that much as long as they can still excell.
TO gets his fingers fixed and he will be better; Glenn is a stud; Crayton is as good a #3 as there is and we have potentials waiting.

O LIne: RIVERA MUST GO. Outside of that, they should be better as they get more time to work together and Columbo gets more experience. Kosier more chances to settle in at one position; the Hotel as he gets better from his ACL. Gurode has a shot at the Pro Bowl next year if he keeps it up. This should be a good line next year IF we improve at Riveras spot.

DLine: Spears must step up, canty as well and we need a backup for Fergie. Our DEPTH is very good and Hatcher and Ratlif might be pushing for starters slots if they give Ratlief a shot at DE.

LBs: JAMES must improve or get him outta there. Ayoi for a first year guy in our system did VERY well. Burnett showed some- needs to show some more. Ware is of course a beast. Carp showed a lot and might be ready to bust out. Ellis- that injury and his age..... We need another BIG PASS RUSHER.

CBs: Newman is the best COVER corner in the NFL- nuff said. Henry- move him to FS. Glenn is as good a #3 as you will find; we need to get another or have reeves/Jones step up big.

S: Roy needs to step up and be used right. If we put Henry here we can let Roy roam and play closer to the LOS and there he should shine.

P: McBriar should have been all pro.

K: automatica might be the best we have had since the 70s.

One thing I have noticed in watching the playoff games, is that the teams playing just seem to have more speed than the Cowboys do, especially on defense and RB.

I'd like to see more speed at LB and RB myself.

We have plenty of speed in certain areas ( RB, WR, CB) but it does seem our LBs are slow- our inside ones, anyway.

Morning.......I REALLY do honestly believe this franchise will be better when Bill is gone. Some agree, some don't but for me.... there is no question in my mind that he is VERY average at this point in his career. It happens to the best of them.

Not so much speed, but they are playing with urgency, passion and heart. Perhaps that is something that you may have missed watching the Cowboys play over the last part of the season.
