I've adopted this ASUS PC that worked fine when I disconnected it from my office and brought it home.

It was connected to a network before if that means anything.

Now when I try to boot up it up the mother board has a buzzer that just buzzes at me.

I've checked and double check ALL the connections inside and out and still cant get it to boot up.

Do you have any ideas about the problem?

Win XP NT professional 512 MB 40gig HD

It appears to actually be a server, or have server capabilities, if that means anything.

I'm stumped.

Help. :)

Make sure the memory and processor are seated properly. They could have gotten loosened, for lack of a better word, in transit.

Memory is properly sitted and the white clips are locked into the notches on the memory chip.

How do I remove the processor fan from the mother board once I have unlocked the two leavers on the fan? You'd think it would just slide off, but it won't. Is there some other clip on the fan housing? :(

It could be screwed in. Also make sure the power supply connector is connected properly.

If you need the motherboard fried let me know. I could install some RAM or something and in the process send a surge of static electricity from my body right into the machine, destroying it. It's my specialty-- I do have recent experience and references are available upon request.

If you are getting a buzz at initial power and bootup and that is hardware and has nothing to do with the OS.

512mb is not high end lol but I will let you think it is. The buzzing is ually caused by memory not seated or improper memory type

Graphics card; over heating bad fans, if it is more oc a chirping sound the hard drive is most likely toast

Is the sound a beep if so count the beeps some motherboards have beep codes like 2 beeps a pause and 2 more beeps. You can look it up if it is giving beep codes

Ok starkist from what you told me and since I can not hear the beep codes my initial guess is something is wrong with the video card

A not seated properly or maybe the monitor not plugged in good to the card

If not that sounds like maybe memory

It could be the CPU but right not that is not my initial thought

you said it was plugged into a network...why not try and plug it into yours? something simple could cause it go hazy. With my luck with any computer is always the simplest things that cause them to go hazy on me

Beep codes at boot have nothing to do with a 10/100 cat 5 or gigabit cat 6 cable. Beep codes at initial boot indicate hardware failure period end of story.

Normal Hardware failures due to beep codes

Memory (I seen this one more than any other)

Video card (# 2 on my list I have seen)

Over heating had it once on an HP due to a bad motherboard; and bad processor fans. The other two times where when the cooling fan on the processor went bad

there are others but these are you common 3

Buzzing sound and no display? That doesn't sound like beep codes. I'd bet the power supply is failing. You said it was a server, does it have redundant (dual) power supplies?
