I have a 4-track on which I've recorded tons of songs (actually just guitar-based stuff but precious nonetheless!); does anybody know how I can transfer those tracks onto my computer (A Mac with Garageband)? Basically, I'd love to be able to burn them onto a CD, so if I can get them on my computer, I'll be all set. Any ideas/suggestions?

You need to get either stand alone hardware, or a sound card with the ability to transfer analog sound to digital.

We have one at work to do that for vhs to transfer to DVD.

The main thing is getting it from the analog to the computer and the best way to do it is like I said, stand alone hardware or a sound card with input.

Link to stand alone

Probably cheaper then high level soundcards.

That stand alone looks great. Is it just a matter of connecting the 4-track to the stand alone and then connecting the stand alone to the computer? At that price, it seems almost too good to be true.

p.s. I just realized this thread should have probably been created in the technology zone. Sorry about that!

You can buy a stand alone CD Recorder for home audio use that you could burn your recordings to just by sending it out from the 4-track and in to the CD recorder.

Then the CD can just be opened on your computer.

Cheers! Good to know that there are some fellow musicians on this site.
