Now that we've called this guy up from the PS to take Tony's place on the active roster, i was interested in getting some opinions on the guy.

I thought in the preseason he was playing very well at CB for a guy who hadn't played football in awhile at any level. He jumped right in against some second and third string guys and looked like he had alot of potential at the position.

Now with his move to WR, how does everyone feel about that? It obviously seems to be out of necessity, although im not sure if he was called up to get some playing time against the Cardinals on Saturday, or simply because others teams were showing interest in him and we wanted to protect him on the roster.

I think we'd be foolish to keep him at WR much longer, its so much harder to find good CB help in this league than it is to find receivers. I'd like to see him moved back to CB pretty quickly after this game and have a full offseason to learn and gain experience of the position.

How's everyone else feel about the guy?

The staff has evaluated him all season long and it appears they feel he is more suited for WR. I loved his speed (obviously) and his willingness to hit. Hopefully once Dave Campo is booted, an actual Secondary Coach can evaluate him, and we'll have to go from there.

His willingness to hit is actually why I wish they kept him on defense.

That's what i question though. I don't know if they simply consider him to be a better value at the WR position, or if they just saw that they had alot of injuries at WR and had a guy who's physical talents would allow him to excel at WR and moved him there for depth reasons, just in case, until the end of the season.

Nobody knows at this point because the team has not said why they moved him. If he is still a WR in camp next year, then I think its safe to say they didn't think he could make it as a CB. If they switch him back, then it would seem the move was out of necessity due to a couple WR injuries. Moving him to the active roster is definately a move to retain his rights. Teams are fishing for raw talented players this time of year and I'm sure he was getting looked at by some other teams.

me too.

You just have to think the staff has really tried to make him a CB and decided to move him to WR. I would like to see him at safety. He has decent size 6'3" 198 but like we both mentioned, the kid was willing to throw his body around.

I wouldn't know for sure, but that just has the ingredients of a monumental fail. You can just put him back there cause of his numbers. No instincts, no safety.

is he more suited to WR? or is it that we had so many WR go down?

so did they say where and what he did in practice....this could be interesting:hammer:

He must be important.

Jerry said LENNY williams was called up because another team wanted to sign and activate him. So they ir'd romo and called up LENNY williams.

Either way moving form WR to CB to WR is good for him. The more he is exposed to in the passing game the better IMO.

The Splendid Sprinter gets his chance

Teddy Williams had not played football since high school when the Cowboys signed him in late July. Williams spent four years as a member of the UT-San Antonio track team and he made the All-America team four times.

His fastest time was a wind-aided 100 meters, which he ran in 9.9 seconds. His best 40-yard-dash time was reported at 4.31 seconds.

“He’s got three things,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said. “Speed and I forgot the other two.”

Woo hoo! More Stephen and less Jerry.

Maybe moving him to WR is just a formality and the Cowboys see him as potential special teams dynamo ala Kassim Osgood.

ESPN Dallas is reporting that the Dolphins were trying to sign Williams to their roster.

Probably the main reason he was chosen to replace Romo.
