Let's think about this for a bit and then discuss...if this were 1979, would many Zoners be ripping Roger for losing to the Steelers? He should've thrown a better pass to Jackie Smith, Landry was a genius in the early 70s, but now, the league has caught up to him...etc. what else would we be complaining about?

There was nothing the matter with Rogers pass Jackie stumbled over his feet and picked a bad time to do a Nick nolte impression of the end in North Dallas 40.

All in all it was an absolutely delightful time to be a Dallas Cowboys fan.

It can be the whole point of the thread, which I believe is irrelevant since it is based upon a generality of 'everything' quarterbacks might be criticized for. I posted a detailed OP following the first Philadelphia game of CeeDee Lamb dropping catchable passes. My post, that you have quoted, specifically targets a single dropped receiving attempt.

Anyone and everyone can throw rocks at everything quarterbacks may or may not do well. My post has solely to do with Roger Staubach throwing a totally catchable pass. That's it. It is unnecessary to suggest mix it within the usual CowboysZone quarterback conversational quagmire.

It’s not really a quagmire, the whole point of this thread is about the differences between today’s players and the pressure and scrutiny they face compared to the 70s, when all they had to do was play football.

Back then, there were no analytics and no overwhelming flood of media dissecting every little thing. Now, every single snap, every moment of a game, is broken down by computers and judged by millions of eyes pointing out how it could have been done better.

Players today would get roasted just like now, with the usual 50/50 split in opinion, sure, maybe it could have been a better pass, maybe it should have been caught, but the level of scrutiny is way more intense.

It’s not just quarterbacks; all players are under the microscope.

In the past, fans might have been upset at one player or another, mostly the tight end in this case, but with today’s social media, nonstop sports coverage, and endless analytics, the pressure is relentless. One mistake and it’s picked apart to death.

We almost saw the end of Tom Landry, and people treated him like a god, furious at Jerry for letting him go. But if that had happened in today’s era of social media and analytics, they’d have been calling for his head long before 1989. And look at how far Bill Belichick has fallen, this guy led one of the greatest dynasties ever, went to nine Super Bowls, and doubled everything Landry accomplished.

Yet in such a short time, he’s treated like he’s done and forgotten, with people focusing only on the negatives and ignoring all the positives he achieved.

That’s what social media, the internet, and the oversaturation of everything have done—every snap gets analyzed, every mistake magnified. They’d have been calling for Roger’s head. I still remember Troy; he was never perfect. He threw interceptions in big games but had teams to bail him out. Same with Matthew Stafford, led the league in interceptions, threw two in the Super Bowl, and it didn’t matter. He was let off the hook by a great team.

Players in the ’70s didn’t have to deal with that. These days, everything is real-time, and even in the ’90s, with fewer outlets, it wasn’t like now. I can’t imagine Troy surviving his rookie year today. Back then, there was controversy—multiple quarterbacks said maybe they should’ve drafted one of the Steves over Troy.

That would blow up now, and I’m not sure fans wouldn’t have talked about him like they do Prescott or Romo. The only reason he gets respect is because he has the rings. You remember like 2017 a lot of the really hardcore Tony Romo fans couldn't let it go that dak took over and Started really breaking down and criticizing every little thing that did including oh he can't score he doesn't score enough touchdowns and that whole narrative started the thing that he wasn't good at, And yet it was the same thing The stats were low just like Troy's Just like Troy had Emmett Smith in that offensive line and a whole bunch of great players and a great roster and somehow Troy didn't have that narrative now But he should have he never carried the Dallas Cowboys he was never asked to, He put up very average numbers just within the framework of the offense and yet if Prescott in 2017 wasn't putting up numbers all of a sudden stats matter but now that he owns all the stats stats don't matter...



Troy was fortunate to have a team that ensured he didn’t have to carry them alone and allowed him to make mistakes. Nowadays, it’s not just quarterbacks, no one is allowed to make mistakes.

In just about 60 seconds, all the replays and so-called expert analyses are breaking down your plays, and you’re being compared to hundreds of players before you. The amount of pressure these guys are under now is just crazy.

Allow me to ask though, maybe I just don’t pay enough attention, do you truly believe that there are genuine Eagles fans around here regularly (other than the one that freely admits it) or do you mean posters in general that often trash the Cowboys?

I spend too much time around here as it is. I couldn’t imagine having enough time or desire to go to an Eagles site and pretend to be a fan just to troll.

Not giving you a hard time, just genuinely curious if I’m missing all that, because I don’t see it. Maybe it’s just an expression.

While I was very young in the 70s and for the most part lived in New York and wasn't much of an NFL fan back than, But I can tell you what was equally as good is the next dynasty which produced 3 Super Bowls in six years When Jimmy Johnson took over Jerry bought the team you know how awesome it was to share that experience in my mid 20s with other Cowboys fans it was electric...

So yes it was even fantastic in the 90s and all teams go through droughts and go through the ups and downs and the ebbs and flows and that is the reason we have these discussions but to me I think too much is being made of this drought it'll pass just like all droughts I've seen in sports and including the NFL we've seen the Eagles not get their first title until 2017.. There are some out there that have no titles there are some that being close some never even being close... But even the Kansas City Chiefs had a 56 year drought between titles it happens we've seen a baseball team have a 100 year drought..

It is those moments that you call delightful that keeps you looking forward to the next time because there will be a next time I know people don't think so but I do..

My parents had one. I'm pretty sure that was the biggest TV you could get at the time.

I think that was the quickest I went from elation to disappointment. I wasn't even done celebrating when Bradshaw hits Stalworth on a short curl I believe, and he outruns the entire Cowboys D for 70+ yards I think.

With all due respect, I would say that Romo got torn apart for turnovers at the worst possible times and Prescott for failing to perform in the playoffs at a lower level than in the regular season.

The "critique" on their "form" is hardly worth mentioning compared to their Big Picture failures.

Just one well hung man's opinion and nothing more.

It was real men, coaches, and football players back then ........ not billionaires playing fantasy football and coaches making it "rain" and playing lazer tag with the players.

To your point, today's boys/men have been conditioned to be more beta and less alpha.

They've been told they are the problem with society from school, social media, movies/entertainment, and even from their parents when its a "single" modern mom raising a boy from advice on TikTok.

Decades of punching down on these boys have repercussions and this is the result we are seeing in almost every western country.

Rodgers played for the love of the game. Our QB plays for the love of money and himself.

Thats the biggest reason why we view what he does differently. Be authentic and we judge you else. Be a fake and you get what you deserve.

19" was then the much more affordable TV's.
Had a 19" color Zenith. Passed down, and it last for what seemed like 20 years. But probably more like 15, can't remember what year they got it for sure. Parents had it, got the 27" console, so my brothers used it, then I got it. Used it all the time and after I got married. It was our main TV for 5 or 6 years. Bought a new TV, that was a 2nd TV until it died.
