Tell us, Martellus, why Jerra chose you with our precious 3rd pick

I just figured out that gimmetheball is Skip Bayless.

No, we are different people. Your mama liked him last year but gave him the pink slip cause she preferred me long time.

Because, who knew?
Who knew that out of all our needs that backup TE to one of the greatest TEs in the game today was a glaring need.

Oh, man, what a waste.

Even if Martellus proves to be NFL worthy, realistically, how much will he play behind Witten, T.O. and possibly and RW or Chad?
Martellus must be the best receiver blocker in the NCAA. Otherwise, whyu choose him?

Wow, what an enigmatic pick by Jerra.
My only hope is that he'll trade Martellus to some TE starved team today during the latter rounds.

:bang2:

I find it somewhat ironic that you are attempting to look into your crystal ball with this original post (Roy Williams and Chad Johnson won't be playing for Dallas this year BTW), and yet are jumping all over others who are attempting to do the same with regards to Bennett's playing time.

Oh, and Martellus Bennett was unquestionably the bet blocking tight end in the Big XII all three years he was at A&M. Mack Brown, who recruited Bennett out of HS along with every other major program in the nation and whose word most on this board take as canon, called him the most complete athlete he's ever seen on a football field.

Anthony Fasano's role now belongs to Martellus Bennett, assuming he beats out Curtis for the backup role.

But you just got through saying Bennett will play a lot of snaps!!!!! Then you place qualifier . . . well, assuming he beats out Curtus . . ..

Mr. Arrogant now becomes Mister Qualifier.

Which is it???

This thread is ridiculous...

Fasano sucks, plain and simple. What happens when you have players that arent very good??? You draft there replacement, that is what you do. You dont stick with someone just because you drafted them in a certain round...

Its funny how to diminish the pick he is repeatedly called a "backup" when thats not really true. He is no more a backup than Felix Jones will be a backup. He will play alot, if you want to see what a true backup is then see Doug Free this year or James Marten.

This crop of WR's this year was as bad as I can remember seeing and yet people still wanted to use a valuable pick on a bum wideout instead of a really good #2 tight end.

Jumping on others?
Noooooo, mon ami. Poffo petite.
As the post says, Bennett, whatever his skills, did not represent the position that was of great need.
Yet, the lemming NAV and now you, can't grasp this. You keep flailing away like a poor-man's Lacewell. Only without the title and high profile.

And maybe you should have let the A&M coach praise his player instead of Mack, who has made his career on one Vince Young. If you go with Mack's insight, you'll be disappointed in the post-Vince Young era at UT.

Course, "jumping on others" is a perfectly acceptable response by you and NAV if someone dares question a draft pick. Isn't that so?
I questioned it and still do.
If you cannot handle that, tough Schlitz.:laugh2:

I don't care if you question it, but if you're going to at least have your facts straight.

And Dennis Franchione doesnt know a tight end from a tackle (you think I'm kidding). Mack Brown isnt the best coach by any stretch, I was just making a point. This board is littered with Texas homers who would birth Mack's offspring if he let them.

I am not certain why there is confusion about drafting a tight end here.

It is known that Fasano blew a number of mental assignments last season and that is why Garrett wanted him GONE.

The Cowboys run a number of 2-TE set formations.

We now have three TE's on the roster. The rookie can compete to be #2 or stay #3 backup. Duh.

What is so hard to fathmom about this pick? It's a solid one.

Ah, on that we can agree.

I thought the same thing, at first about the RB situation. Then I realized that Alonzo Coleman is our only RB other than Barber. They let both JJ & Tyson Thompson leave, creating a need for another RB. Personally, I would have waited & taken one in FA, but then, if Barber were to go down, Choice would be a better fill-in than any RB UDFA.

Oddly enough, the more I've thought about the Boys RB choices, the more sense they make. I think Dallas has no intention of letting Barber go. In fact, the pick of Choice tells me that that he's going to get some reps this year as Barber's backup in the base offense, and that Felix Jones is going to be groomed as a specific offensive weapon, not as the next Julius Jones. Felix Jones is an incredibly explosive player, and I suspect that Dallas intends to use him as a matchup weapon, not as Barber's backup. My guess is that Choice will get a handful of carries as the base offense backup RB, but Jones will be the third-down guy and an H-back or even a wideout in passing situations, depending how he develops as a receiver. He's built to get the ball in space, and I really believe that's how Dallas intends to utlilize him.

You make excellent points here. Today, if you look at who actually plays, the offense and defense together really consist of about thirty players, not twenty-two. Anthony Fasano was not simply a backup--he played on a lot of downs, but he just wasn't very good. These days, your "backup" corner or wideout or linebacker play a lot. Those positions are integral to the offense and defense situationally. Felix Jones will not not be Barber's backup, he'll be a player designed to get at least twenty offensive reps per game with the goal of getting him the ball in space. Bennett will get a lot of reps, too. As will Jenkins , even if Pacman Jones is cleared to play. These days, your third corner is a critical position, not just a backup.
