Tell us, Martellus, why Jerra chose you with our precious 3rd pick

I am really thinking that people are ******** or the US schools system is even more lacking than i thought.

The 2nd TE in our offense played 44% of the snaps last year or whatever the figure was that Adam gave.

All youre whining and refusal to grasp this fact is fun and all but dear lord people this is just sad.

Now i suppse you think just increasing Curtis' snaps to that and hoping for the best is a great idea but I for one can see why the team may think a guy that can upgrade Fasanos mediocre blocking and 14 catches might be worth a draft pick.

Just in case you have not noticed the players in the NFL are a little faster then most college teams have. So there is very little chance that a 4.68 guy is going to be busting much of anything very long. That is slower then Barber and what is his longest run?

Once again you miss the forest for the sake of the trees.

There are almost no TE in the league that are a consistent threat to take it 80 yards.

Newsflash: DBs are faster than TEs....

I'm just giving facts.

You on the other hand are giving uninformed opinions based off 40 times.

Red zone is the only place that Bennett will really have any role at all, frankly.
I don't get it. Can you not comprehend Adam's posts or are you just ignoring them?

Fasano played many snaps last year and his role will now be replaced by Bennett. So he'll do much more than just play red-zone. You'll see him on tons of short-yardage plays and running downs as well, and not just as a blocker. We are a pass-first offense, so he'll have opportunities to catch some passes while he's in there (depending on if he can earn that trust).

It's called the dumbing down of the America if there is no green or red underneath a paper tht it is written then it is assumed to be correct. Then there is also the fact that T.V.s raise the kids more the parents.

And what part of Bennett doesn't say playmaker? The 6'7" part with the athleticism to line up wide?

Tell me this.

How many tight ends do you know can take a quick slant 75 yards for a TD, and still block like a tight end? Not very many.

You geniuses complaining about a 2nd string tight end do realize that any WR we would have taken at 61 would have been no higher than #4 on the depth chart right?

Owens
Crayton
Hurd

And that's not even including Glenn or Stanback into the equation.

I know dude, you watched a lot of Bennett in college, right?

Here are some of the knocks. There are lots if nice things said as well.

Not the best receiver in the group (of TEs)
Does not have pure speed
Lacks burst

Etc. etc. I understand he is a good athlete. So is Curtis. I read him as a project.

LOL! I would would hold off on criticizing those who arent sold until Bennett does something. All hot air. Kinda condescending to act like you know more somehow.

Who says we had to stay at #61 and why are you acting like Bennett was the only guy we could take!? LOL! Its only the 2nd round, still day 1 and there's nothing left?

How do you know a WR would beat out the lowly Hurd and his 10 catches, LMAO! But, I didnt say we need a WR at #61 myself. For a WR I would have packaged a 4th and moved up the way a half a dozen other teams did.

I will enjoy whatever Bennett brings, and I am not overly concerned. But to hear you all spin this as if blocking snaps and no one being left on day 1 is ridiculous. Its also ridiculous to suggest back up TE regardless of snaps was a need. And I have to say, comparing Fasanos snaps to first round talent to justify some unkown back up TE is silly.

I've seen a handful of A&M games. I'm just gonna guess here, but I'm pretty sure the majority of you guys haven't seen him play (it's actually pretty obvious by the ignorant remarks). So yeah, I think I know a little more about him.

I never said he was the only guy we could take. Don't know what gave you that impression.

Some unknown guy huh  ? Several scouts had him listed as the #1 TE prospect in the draft.

The snaps number was brought up because people seem to think that he won't be making any contributions this year, when in fact he's gonna be seeing a lot of playing time.

Just because Fasano was non-existant in all the snaps he played in last year doesn't mean Bennett will fare the same.

Money B is gonna prove you haters wrong

i'm not crazy about the bennett pick.

in response to the #'s adam posted I ask this question as i am not certain i remember correctly.

were a lot of fasano's snaps a result of deon anderson getting injured and needing someone to fill an h-back/fullback type role? how much were we in a true 2 TE set? if a lot of fasano's time was in an h-back role is that something bennett can do?

some unkown back up TE is silly.
That's all I needed to read. Thank you, Mr. Casual Fan. I now know to ignore your opinion on Bennett completely, since you obviously know nothing about arguably the best TE in the draft.
Money B is gonna prove you haters wrong
He sure will. :)

With Anthony Fasano gone we need a good backup for Witten. Bennett is one great back up. I think this kid is a lot better than Anthony Fasano. He has superior blocking skills and has good hands. Also he's humongus he is like 6-7 259 pounds.

Needs? We really DO NOT need anything on this team......that is why he picked the best talent available.....he is 6'7'' and so young he is still growing .....can you imagine what we might have in two more years?

This team is far better than it was last year already.

1) Felix Jones
1) Mike Jenkins
2) Bennett
3) TBd
4) PacMan Jones

How they arrived is a little skeptical, but the final results are undeniable.

What scares me is that there were hints of the old Jerry by picking Jones over Mendenhall which is scary.

That ASIDE>>>>>>>> it was a very good 1st day.....

When the Cowboys 2nd round pick finally rolled around, the BPA criterion screamed "pick an RB or pick a TE."

Jerry went TE.

It wasn't like Jerry had some master plan to nab a second round TE. This is just the way the second round unfolded.

Personally, I would have preferred that Jerry trade out of the pick. But maybe he tried and couldn't.

Fasano played 443 snaps last season -- almost as much as either of our running backs (475 for Julius and 528 for Barber). And that's with Witten almost never coming off the field (he played 957 out of 1,010 snaps). If Witten ever gets injured, our backup TE will be playing even more.

Adam, are you throwing facts and logic into the debate? Shame, shame...this is kill Jerry and Wade day, we will have no actual hard numbers and any type of logic stop the pitchforks and torches at the gates of Valley Ranch....:D

There just wasn't a lot left, especially at wr. Look at Goose's top 100 to see where the value was at pick 61. Not trading up for Limas Sweed who was ranked 39 by Goose(and went 53) is what was disappointing to me.

Gosselin had him as the 46th best platyer in this draft. What place did we pick Bennet at again?

Gosselin has been pretty good with rankings over the years

this is the classic "best player available" pick. It's cool that the roster is talented enough that Dallas can go the BPA route. That usually leads to good drafts.

When Dallas has had crap drafts, it has been mainly because of reaching for need picks imo. I would bet that they will have a BPA philosophy for the three picks today as well.

Sorry about your lack of comprehension, but maybe I kin elaborate:
In regards to our needs, WR being one, the TE position didn't strike as needing attention in the 2nd round.

TE's (and certainly much faster ones) can be had in the latter rounds.
Not with the 3rd pick overall.

Bennett has good speed relative to his 6'7" frame and will be featured in two tight end sets. The wide receiver class was fairly weak this drafting year. Not one was picked in the first round. You also have Felix Jones to situationally stretch the field.

Romo does his greatest damage with quick accurate intermediate throws so I see an even more very versatile passing attack. We have tried hard as heck to snag a young productive veteran receiver which makes sense considering our circumstances. A drafted newbie unless exceptional would have questionable impact this year.

It is what it is.

Because, who knew?
Who knew that out of all our needs that backup TE to one of the greatest TEs in the game today was a glaring need.

Oh, man, what a waste.

Even if Martellus proves to be NFL worthy, realistically, how much will he play behind Witten, T.O. and possibly and RW or Chad?
Martellus must be the best receiver blocker in the NCAA. Otherwise, whyu choose him?

Wow, what an enigmatic pick by Jerra.
My only hope is that he'll trade Martellus to some TE starved team today during the latter rounds.

:bang2:

The bottom line is that ANY pick in this draft is not going to be an immediate starter (with the possible exception of Pac) so these arguments of drafting backups is lame.

Our team is soild enough such that we are in this position.

It's a GOOD thing.

NO WR IN THIS DRAFT WAS GOING TO START FOR US.

Besides, we'll address WR later in the summer.......... ;)

you would rather reach for a need pick than draft the best player available? Dallas is not in rebuilding mode anymore.

what if someone had a crystal ball and told you Bennett was going to be another Antonio Gates? Would that change your opinion?
